I love the bakelite box and how my BlackBird was packaged...so I can understand why it's important to have it around for resale (although I think it's nice to keep it because it's just so damn pretty). But as my collection is somewhat small (and not very expensive), I'm curious as to what kind of packaging you can expect from other companies.

With that said, I'd love for folks to post links or pics of packaging they think is outstanding, beautiful, unique, etc. - new or old. And any history about how this whole "packaging" came into prominence would be appreciated as well. Did Lings always come in such pretty packages or is this more of a recent phenomena?

I like the bakelite box, but the Panerai boxes are a lot nicer in my opinion.

I'm with you on this one Justin - the Breitling Bakelite is nice, but I also like Panerai more.

However, for me, I think that Blancpain make some of the most beautiful boxes around. They vary depending on the model (with the Fifty Fathoms getting a utility waterproof plastic case), but the high end models get fantastic wooded boxes with lots of differnt inlaid wood/marquetry. They even design their boxes so that the watch holder part can be removed, so that the box can be used as a jewellery box or as a cigar humidor. Very very nice furniture grade boxes.

This one on eBay is a bit battered (and not the most ornate one I've seen anyway.........oh and it's missing the watch insert), but you get the idea -

Hey,

Sonyman do not stop now, show us the next pic.

For me the best packaging must the the Omega Missions case for the 40th Anniversary Omega Speedmaster set of the 22 Speedmaster watches in a case made from cloth from a spacesuit. All the patch watches from each NASA mission from Gemini V to the 1973 Skylab SL-4. And a replica of the original 1957 Speedmaster thrown in for good measure.

A case rather plain on the outside:

But then open it and:

Oh my God:

Not sure where I got these pics but would you place the case on an old work bench?

Wow - those are awesome. Thanks for posting guys.

I pre-ordered a Panerai 321, so the pics of the Panerai box got me especially excited.

Also thinking about using my Breitling Bakelite box as a humidor now :)

You won't be disappointed with the Panerai box. :)

Look forward to seeing the 321 pics when you get it, I'm very interested in that particular model.

That's a much better picture of what I was trying to show in my earlier post. Great stuff!

I think I've got a new hobby -- collecting watch boxes. Some of the ones
you guys posted were works of true craftsmanship. Especially the Blancpain box.
I wonder, if I walked into a Blancpain dealership, would they sell me just the box,
minus the watch? Somehow I doubt it. :( Oh well.... Thanks for posting those great pix. :)
