The Antiqua is the standout for me - and the first one to be recommended twice.

If I could find one for under $20K then it might well be a done deal. There was at least one example available last year from (I think) an Asian seller, but no idea on price.

You don't see many Antiquas about. In fact I've never actually seen one for sale. I've seen a few with "Sold" by them, but never an active sale.

Yeah, I like BRM, but the movement is the problem - you are paying a heck of a lot of money for a watch with a $100 movement.

Well, you certainly asked for the other end of the spectrum as well, so...

Not sure how easy it'll be to find an in-house movement for $2000, so heading for the lower end, why not just skip the movement? Being in Tokyo I guess I have to promote these a tiny bit.

Personally I haven't decided if I should get one just for fun or if they're too gimmicky.

How about a Dornblueth Regulator?? The claim is that this is the only regulator that has the dial in the true original configuration, with the hour hand on the bottom, not the top. You can get it in a hand-engraved dial or ceramic like this:

More info at http://www.dornblueth.com/flash.php?p=collection&s=refcal_reg

Like all Dornblueths, it features a handmade in-house movement:

They will even customize the dial or the movement engravings for you. And the price is quite reasonable.

Now THAT is a very good call! I could imagine Roff potentially going for this one.

I have been considering a Dornbluth for a while - I don't think that it would scratch this itch for a niche watch, but I do like them. To be honest the only reason that I haven't done anything on one is that I am still trying to figure out how to ask them to customise it for me.

In terms of a handmade watch it is far and away the best value for money of anything you can find, although now that RGM have an in house movement they may give them a run for the money.

And on that note.... if I can find one of the RGM LEs those are unique, though there isn't yet an in house with an LE dial.

Alesiter, in terms of Tokyop flash, well yes - they are unique, but I'm not sure that I can quite carry it off

I was just thinking about Urwerk! The movements are unique... I love the bottom photo Mark posted. Way out of my world-price range, but I'd get one if it was possible.

Urwerk 103 or 201, not sure of the price, but you can't get much more unique than this.

Simply amazing IMHO. I've stared at the images of these watches for hours in Watchtime adverts.

Old post on TZ, good pics and a price... a bit higher than your budget.

I've been looking for some Urwerks in the price range - cheapest used I have found so far is on Chrono24 - around $40K

I like Dornbluth, but my memory serves me, aren't they essentially hand re-built and customized Unitas movements? Similar to what Nomos is doing and now L&B Schaumburg.

IMO, one unique brand in your range might be Louis Moinet. Graham is a cool choice too.. speaking of which, I have one on the way ;) I've personally become quite enthralled by the Longines Weems and Linderberg Editions that are 45mm+, but a $5000 MSRP Longines seems a bit excessive.

Richard Mille is nice... if you like those, I could recommend Cvstos. I tried one on in the Caribbean and liked it a lot. Martin Braun is another great looking watch in your range with just enough uniqueness with their EOS and Equation of Time complications.

Dornbluth are hand made - is it a Unitas movement, well technically. It's a Unitas base plate and train - everything else is hand made by Dornbluth, so close to in house.

Not overly familiar with Louis Moinet - I'll take a look. I seriously like Graham, (which one do you have on the way?), but I really want something with more than a generic movement - otherwise I would have one by now as I had a chance to get a good deal on one a few months ago. I keep looking a Cvstos - the 'poor' man's Richard Mille, just not sure about them. Martin Braun is another that I am not too sure about.

This is a fun exercise - hoping to pick up the Zenith this month so then the search can really start (don't tell the wife).

I need to do some more research about Graham, as I really like the looks of some of the models, like the Chronofighter Divers. I've always been under the impression that they don't garner much respect in the circles of haute horologie, therefore I started to put them into the "all show, no go" category. I don't know exactly what I read to lead me this assumption, probably just a culmination of comments I've read over the years.

I need to do my own research and make my own assessment. I might be missing out on a great looking watch.

Come on admin, fess up, which model do you have inbound?

I think that kind of sums them up. I also really like quite a few of the models (especially the Swordfish models, as while I also like the "trigger" chronographs I just think they are too large), but the RRP is frankly insane for essentially unmodified ETA's. They have also allegedly been a little "free" with the truth when it comes to the George Graham connection which makes you wonder a bit about the brand.

As a sub £2K watch I'd like them : as an only-just-sub £5K watch I think they are grossly overpriced.
