I'm not much of a Rolex fan but I can certainly understand that urge....sleep on it a bit more and if the urge is still there then perhaps the change will be worth it.

Ive seen the SDDS in person (on someone else's wrist) and it is very nice. The disproportionate bracelet isnt as bad when someone is wearing it. The writing on the inner ring is alot more subdued than pictures make it out to be. The taper of the bracelet isnt that noticeable either. The ceracrom bezel is very sharp (nice) although it does have a propensity to reflect alot of light. The cambered crystal adds a very sleek look to the larger case size. The blue lume is very cool. The clasp is a major improvement too. Overall its a nicer model in person than some of the studio pictures make it out to be. The one thing I definitely do not like however, is its price tag and limited availability. I wouldnt trade any watches for it but if I had an extra 10K laying around I would be tempted. Good luck.

Well, the odd thing is I am actually going to be a voice of support for the idea!

As a previous owner of a 50th Anniversary Submariner I was irritated enormously by the tin foil clasp and sub-Lorus hollow-linked bracelet, and the way the marketing made out the 50th Anniversary piece was limited in production (meaning I paid top dollar) only for the market to suddenly become flooded with them when the popularity waned a little. Hmmmmm, I guess Rolex just found several thousand of them sitting in a drawer somewhere.

BUT having said all that, I find myself strangely drawn to the SDDS as well! The clasp and bracelet shortcomings are fixed, and I personally don't think the narrowness of the bracelet compared to the head is too bad. The SDDS very much fits into my category of preference, (i.e. an evolution of real classics of yesteryear, updated for the 21st century). And everything else aside, Rolex really do know how to build a bulletproof watch. The in-house movement is super smooth and will run forever, probably with minimal servicing too (although I wouldn't advise it), and they are beautifully finished watches. The dial (if a little "wordy" :? ) Cerachrom bezel, and the 43mm case are real works of art. Additionally, no matter what you think of the image and marketing of Rolex, the brand power of that crown on the dial is beyond doubt. Resale value will always be one of the highest on the market.

I'm sorry to say it guys, but I personally just think the SDDS is simply a better watch than the ones Mark's thinking of selling.

If I was you I'd go for it!

I did it :D Sold the Sinn 757utc, and Kobold SOA, now to sell the Speedy and SOHC and the cost is covered.

Can't wait to strap that beast on.

Mark,
The heart wants what the heart wants right! That's what this "hobbie" of ours is all about.
I look forward to seeing some photos and hearing your post purchase thoughts.
Still holding onto the POC in the stable eh?

Hi Christopher, you are a bit late to the party, but here is my post purchase rave...

Yes, so far the pOC is still with me. Although the Deepsea is making me wonder why I need any other watches.
