I would guess by the amount of watches she's bought. Also, the demand for a teal dial chrono cockpit might not be that high so maybe the AD just wanted to move the watch?

A relative has bought over 40 pieces from them 8)

And actually - the Cockpit was special ordered!

That's interesting. My AD has two stores, one has 3 turquoise cockpit chronos and the other has 2. As far as I can tell, it's the only model in their entire line of Breitlings for which they stock multiple identical copies in the same store. I guess they think there is a big demand for them...but I have not noticed one of them sell in the year or so I have been visiting them.

I am not sure what the list was but I got my Avenger Seawolf TI black face with diver pro for $1580 in 2004 from my AD. Small AD I think was key. I think it was somewhere around 50%. I also got an ocean racer strap in 08 for $310.

Does anyone know the list for my watch in 2004 when I bought?

hmmm, I don't have a relative that bought 40 of anything from anyone, so I'm guessing a 38% discount would be a bit tough.

Just a thought, who needs 40 Breitlings? I love Breitling but were all 40 for one individual? I am not trying to be disparaging but that seems excessive. I mean they are not socks.

That's a lot of discretionary income that I wish I could say I had. Is the relative Bruce Wayne?

I'm pretty certain that I don't even have 40 pairs of socks...much less Breitlings. Either way, the person said they bought 40 pieces from them...I'm guessing if it's a jewelry store, it could be other things than just watches. I guess if you add women's earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, etc, you can somehow manage 40 pieces...

Well to be fair......

Who needs one Breitling.

At the end of the day there are watch collectors who buy for the love and appreciation of fine mechanical timepieces. The practical aspect isn't as relevant. I think that's a good thing - if we were all practical then we would be using $10 quartz watches (or using the clock on our phones).

My wife reminds me of that exact point.

Me! And I'd like 35-40% off it. :lingsrock:

The NW USA rep wears a turquoise Chrono Cockpit with a diamond bezel. I'm sure she has a little influence there...

I got my black Navitimer World in Hong Kong with 30% discount this Feb.
Got my black arabics Super Avenger in Singapore with 30% discount in June.
But one shop in SIngapore told me that Breitling instituted a new sales structure (whatever that means) that meant that for all new stock ordered from Breitling Singapore it was impossible to give more than 25%. The saleslady suggested i try and find a shop with old stock, so I did and they were still able to give 30%.

Tourneau in Shanghai (now closed) told me they lost the right to sell Omega because they were caught giving a higher discount than Omega allowed (12%). Apparently some Omega guys came by to check and bought a watch with the high discount. BOOM, no more Omega at Tourneau...

So some shops don't discount too much for fear of losing the rights to sell the brand. Losing the rights is a bit worse than losing just a few sales.

Breitling did that in the US at the end of last year, but the numbers were fairly excessive (well over 30%) and it does appear to have been a fairly limited exercise - generally aimed at 'repeat offenders' who had a track record of problems with Breitling / BUSA.

I'm not too sure why the manufacturer's should care about how much dealers/retailers sell their products for. If a dealer buys a product from the manufacturer and decides to discount it so much that they lose money on it, shouldn't that be their concern? I mean, as long as they can pay the manufacturer for the products, and especially in cases where there is no suggested retail price, what gives the manufactucturer any right to say how much to discount and how much they make or lose?!
