Hey,

Im mildly considering this treatment process (http://www.blackoutconcept.com) as think the Rolex's look really nice for my SO heritage 46 on the bracelet. Aparently its a reversible process so always have the option of going back though im sure it wouldn't be quite the same as original. If anyone is good on photoshop and has time for a little project could you attempt blacking out the case and strap to see what it looks like? A lot to ask but worth a try.

Not me. I've tried 4 PVD watches because they look so amazing in pics, but each time they just didn't do anything for me in person. I sold them in a very short time. Plus I hate the thought of not being able to repair the finish in case of a ding or scratch. My exploration of black watches has come to an end, and I am content to admire them in pics.

I'm completely with you on this, Mark. They look great in pics, but I've always found that PVD cheapens the look of a watch in the flesh. And the ever present issue with damage and wear makes them a total no-no for me. (But your photoshopping of that SOHC looks ace!)

Sounds like you'd be a candidate for that new Galapagos IWC Aquatimer, which I think is ceramic :) . Mark's photoshopped pic somehow reminded me of it.

I'm starting to agree re PVD. My beloved Bell & Ross is PVD-treated and I managed to nick it on a handrail a couple of weeks ago. It looks great in isolation but it just doesn't look quite as special sitting in the watch box next the the Panerai and the IWC.

Correction, the Galapagos is rubber-coated SS :shock: . I hope it's tough rubber...

We're going a bit off topic here (sorry OP!), but ceramic is the only way to go for black watches IMHO. The IWC Top Gun Doppel Chrono is amazing in the flesh - it's just the lack of an in-house movement that puts me off given the price of it.

Now the Panerai 317 is what you need! At least it's not very rare or expensive though eh? :roll:
