I got an email from George at Govberg today telling me about something that happened at one of their locations. Here is a link to the news story:

http://cbs3.com/local/Shots.Fired.Center.2.1031519.html

I guess these 4 guys came into the store, sprayed the guards with mase and held them at gunpoint. They then smashed the glass on the AP display case and took every watch displayed, all in 28 seconds. Thankfully nobody was hurt and George was working at their Rolex boutique when this happened, but everyone was shaken up.

Unfortunatley I think this kind of thing will happen more often as people get desperate for money and see crime as they way to get money quickly.

Wasn't there another robbery recently in New York at the Waldorf -Astoria Hotel? I believe one of the security guards was shot during the robbery? I also read that the Vice President of Hublot awarded the guy with his very own Hublot Big Bang. Crazy times make people do crazy things I guess?

I guess that if you can come away with half a million dollars worth of watches in less than half a minute, I agree with sonyman and would expect to see more of this.

I am surprised this dosent happen more often and I am not condoning what they have done but the fact is if you just go and do this one crime and then retire the chances are you wont get caught,The danger is when you try to repeat it several times then thats when you get caught. But on the flip side the watches are marked goods they will have serial nos and willbe traced eventually even if they go in for service a few years latter they will get confiscated but I bet they dont care about that.

I guess on a serious note, you should be careful, watching for black market watches showing up on eBay and stuff for a while.
