HEY GUYS I SOLD MY NAVI TODAY... SHIPPING TO CANADA... SOMEONE WROTE THIS IN ONE OF THE POSTS ON THIS SITE..

"FYI... for those of you with a phobia of shipping cross border, shipping to Canada by usps will cost about 25% - 30% more, and will take about 2 minutes longer as you have to fill out a simple customs form that states the item, value, insured amount, and whether it is a gift (which it always is ). Thats it.

In hundreds of sales and purchases, never had a single issue."

ANYONE KNOW ABOUT SHIPPING FROM US TO CANADA?

THANKS

So just go to the Postal office (USPS).. package it up, put that the item is a gift and insure it with a signature on delivery. Include a Birthday card too...this helps the purchaser if it gets stopped for TAX.

I WENT TO A LOCAL USPS... HE SAID TO USE FED EX EXPRESS, INTERNATIONAL DELIVERY....

IT SAYS DESCRIPTION OR HARMONIZED CODE- YOU SAID TO PUT PILOT TRAINING INSTRUMENT, ETC..

THEN IT SAYS.. CHECK BOX FOR "DOCUMENTS" OR "NON-DOCUMENTS"

WHICH DO I CHOOSE? AND I DONT SEE A THING FOR "GIFT"

Better to keep this in the PM...we are an open forum and we certainly dont want the Customs Officers
Reading, and Learning from all of this...

BTW I have received watches from:

---USA 3 times
---Australia 1 time
---England 1 time
---Spain 1 time

No problems at all; except that I had to pay ~35$ in duties a couple of times

Good point, I'm changing my response, sometimes I forget that this isn't an extended family here, and open to the world.

Last time I shipped by Fedex, I had to list every component of the watch, material, origin etc, # of jewels, it was crazy. If you ship Fedex, I can't offer any tips, it is very tightly managed, and Fedex has their own customs brokers who will hold the item if anything in the forms doesn't match the contents.

Thats why I use USPS.

Just for the sake of completeness..............

While I know that everyone does it, completing a customs declaration as 'gift' when it isn't is a criminal offence.

Additionally, Canadian law only allows a small part of the value ($65 IIRC) to be exempt on a gift, so theoretically there is no real advantage, although I know that gifts do often get allowed in. You can of course put zero value, but then can't insure.

Also, Fedex only allows $500 max declared value on items of extraordinary value(watches, jewelry, etc), unless you purchase separate insurance.

I have never had a watched shipped into Canada but I've had a few eBay items shipped. All I can say is that I only buy if the seller will ship USPS. I won't buy if it is shipped UPS, FEDEX, etc, as those guys will charge the receiver brokerage charges that almost seems like highway robbery. The cost is high, unknown until you get the bill..
