True, and Breitling took an advantage from that to rip you off.

Also true.

But give it another 10 (or 20) years and I'll feel confident enough in my abilities to do these things myself on Breitlings.

Absolutely, and then you'll show those dirty rotten SOB's! :D

Roff, I'm sure you have seen the video of what Breitling does on a complete service. I've seen it in person, and I wonder how they do it for so little...

As far as the part goes, does the 150 include the installation of the pusher and gasket? Also did they clean the exterior of the watch at all? Just curious...

Fine watch you have there.

I agree with you on the service - but 30% of servicing costs for the pusher seems excessive. I realise that it's likely that they will replace the pusher arm as well so will involve some assembly / disassembly, but even so, it's 20 minutes work.

Don't know on the cleaning - I'm pretty sure that it will be pristine when it comes back to me because if Breitling don't do it the AD will.

The mere fact he feels this way indicates it isn't a ripoff. They charge for their quality of goods, not to be compared to an off-the-shelf item. Sucks, but Ferrari owners don't really have the right to complain about the cost of ownership either.

Actually I do think it's a ripoff.

I don't have it back yet, but I have spoken to a few people and will likely get it for $125 taxes in (13%) - we shall see. I did freely choose to pay the cost rather than 'risk' it elsewhere, and I am aware that there are costs associated with owning pieces like this - but those costs should at least make some sense, and I know enough about watches to know that this is not appropriate for the cost of labour and parts involved.

I guess i have a 50/50 view on this. First being that maybe 150 is kind of like there bottom line price for anything kind of like an attorney may charge a certain amount bottom line just to talk to him. But when you talk about it being 30% of a service for the watch thats kind of crazy. It would have made me almost think about just doing a complete service due to the fact that you had to send it in already and such

Makes you wonder what an entire watch would cost if you had to buy it piece by piece.

Umm, I do believe that includes the labor for installing the pusher/gasket. Over half of that price, probably, is the labor cost.

It strikes me that this affects water resistance and case integrity, so it may involve a little more than slapping in a pusher. I don't know exactly (in case that isn't obvious :| ), but I wouldn't risk it. I'm aware of the dead costs in my industry, but also understand that what you pay for isn't always wrapped up in parts and hourly rates.
