I happen to have a girlfriend with 2 cats that somehow have adopted me over time. Was never a cat person but have to admit I kinda like them now. Here's a picture of one of them with my story attached. Enjoy!

Well, Wrigley made her first visit to the emergency vet last Thurs. night. That evening I decided to put a new popper lure on my fly rod I keep in the corner and try a few casts. Afterwards I put it back in the corner with the little lure secured to the holder at the handle of the rod. Well I guess Wrigley saw what I was doing and while I was cooking started batting the rod and line around. I went over and bopped her and told her no until she left. About 10 minutes later while I was cooking I saw the rod moving out of the corner of my eye so I made another trip over there to scold her when all of a sudden the rod jerked and she ran past me. I went over and saw all the line loose and said "damn cat". I began reeling the line back in until I got to the end and noticed NO POPPER! I looked around on the floor and then it HIT ME, UT OHH! It didn't take a genius to put 2 and 2 together. I slowly walked over to the kitchen where Wrigley was sitting on her rug with a nice feathery lure hanging out the side of her mouth. You can guess what my first thoughts were............LET'S NOT TELL MOMMY ABOUT THIS! LESSON ONE: FYI, getting a fish hook out of a fish's mouth is a lot easier than getting it out of a cat's mouth. Well I grabbed her and gently pulled on the lure when she took off and ran. I found some pliers and finally relocated Wrigley and tried it again................needless to say she went bezerk and shredded my hands and fingers. LESSON TWO: Wear the biggest, thickest leather gloves you can find. After finding some gloves and again relocating Wrigley I tried really hard to get that thing out when I realized I think I'm killing her just trying to hold her down, so I stopped. We still were not going to call Mia yet. I decided to cut the hook off close to her mouth at that point when I thought I will go ahead and try her vets' number eventhough I knew they were closed. I was referred to the emergency number for the Niceville clinic and called them with a "HYPOTHETICAL WHAT IF STORY ABOUT A CAT WITH A LURE IN IT'S MOUTH." They told me what I already knew which was they would sedate her and cut the lure out or I could cut it and leave it until the next day for the vet. I said I would take another look at it and call them back. HERE CAME THE DREADED PART. Hey Mia, what's going on. By the way when do you think you will be home? Oh no reason.........but here's a funny thing that just happened. "WHATTTT? OHHH TERRYYYY, IS SHE OKAY? This is kind of what I heard in between the crying. So I said, shut up and listen to me! Here are the options. Mia surprisingly decided to come straight home from work and we would take Wrigley to the vet. In the meantime I had to get her carrier down without her disappearing again. Mind you I still had not gotten to eat at this point and it is 9:00. Well $140.00 later I was reunited with my lure and Wrigley was hating life, but problem solved. Poor thing was groggy and helpless looking. Now we have to give her anti-biotics for a few days but she is definitely back to normal.

P.S. You know I had to take a picture of my trophy catch......she's a keeper!

My 4 years old, Xiu Mai (next to my SA). He's got absolutely the best personality of any chihuahuas I have ever met, and a bonafide jet-setter, having flown from Los Angeles to Tokyo to Singapore to Batam to Jakarta with us
