On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate Longines watches in general? (based on quality).

Thanks,

Hey cRa,

The master series would be a 10. I love the timeless look, the see through back and the overall design. My Breitling AD is also a Longines AD, and I take a look at those watches every time I take a visit. I'm not sure, but the sales person said that they have an in house movement. I didn't look at the finish up close, but it looked pretty good (feel free to tell me otherwise).

I have long been a Longines fan! One of the ADs in town has a new Limited Edition Charles Lindbergh watch. It is truly an amazing piece. Also, they have a new model - it's a diver's watch, with the bezel built in under the crystal. There are two crowns, a regular one, and another for turning the bezel. Here's a link to the web page with that model:

The AD had one that he got a Basel, an outstanding looking model. Their whole Sports Legendes line is amazing, I think that's the line that has the Charles Lindbergh model.
They have a lot of excellent watches, and for the quality and uniqueness of some of the models, the price point is not too bad either. If I had the bucks, I would get either the Charles Lindbergh or the Wiems Second setting. Here is a link to a jeweller who carries that unique piece, and great pics and writeup on it as well:

I don't know if these special editions interest you, but just thought it would give you a bit more insight into the Longines name.
Cheers,
Carl

I really like my Master Collection GMT, and I like the Evidenza watches as well. I think they're a good deal for the money.

An AD once told me they were a sister company to Omega, always wondered if there was any truth in it. This was at the same time as he told me i'd need to be older to buy one, as they're a more mature watch! :poke:

needless to say I don't go back.

It's true. Both brands are part of the Swatch Group.

I think Logines makes some fine watches and especially like the Longine Clous de Paris Chrono. L2.704.4.16.3

As is Breguet!!!

And Blancpain (the oldest watchmaker in the world)!!

Swatch and the Richemont Group are the big boys in terms of parent companies. But as we know, parent company ownership means very little in terms of day to day running of any of the subsidiary companies.

If you take 3 watches all made under the Swatch Group banner - a plastic Swatch watch, an Omega Seamaster, and a Blancpain or Breguet ANYTHING - you can see that they are as different as chalk and cheese......... and not remotely related in any way. Ownership by a big powerful parent was a way that many smaller companies stayed in business during "the dark years" when quartz was king.

I have no issue whatsoever with who owns a watch company. For example, Richemont own Panerai, IWC, Jaeger, Lange & Sohne, Vacheron Constantin, Cartier, Piaget, Roger Dubuis, Montblanc, to name a few..... but all of them are totally autonomous in what they produce.

really Swatch? Their scale just got lowered one notch because of that. Even though Driver8 explained it quite well I just can't stand that company. Well at the very least I can tell that their quality of products doesn't bleed into their subsidiary companies, which is a good thing.

Still for the price its an excellent classy timepiece. In the words of Barney from How I met your mother "SUIT UP!"

thanks, guys, for your input. I think, since most of you say Longines is quiet nice, it's more in my price range, looks nice, yet cheap. Breitling looks nice, but is quite expensive! So I may actually be getting a watch soon, if i do go with Longines.

Thanks again,
cRaSiAn1030
