I know leather straps aren't water proof, but how about alligator straps? I saw this really nice one, but based on my needs, I can only go with a strap that isn't affected by water.

Not naturally.

You can get waterproofed straps, generally aftermarket, but it's some kind of treatment rather than the strap itself.
