Hi all. I am looking for 'ling #3 and thought I'd peruse the board here briefly to learn more about spotting fakes. Watch #1 was purchased on a whim while on vacation in the Bahamas back in ’98 or so. A friend of mine later chastised me for buying a quartz watch, saying that a mechanical watch will hold its value better. After spending $175 for a battery at an authorized Breitling dealer I got discouraged, and with some minor damage to the bezel after an auto accident, I sold the watch on fleabay. A couple of years ago (after a bad experience with an Omega) I bought a nice Colt automatic that I am wearing right now. Then I thought I’d buy a fake B to see what it was like. It was crap, so I sent it back. Then I found a lovely Navitimer on fleabay last year and bought it. After I got it, there were a few things that just didn’t seem right about it, so I went to a watch store and we popped-off the back and confirmed that it was fake. The eBay seller took it back and refunded my return shipping costs, claiming that they had no idea it was fake. I couldn’t figure out how to report them and I really don’t think eBay cares. Since they made me whole, I didn’t sweat it. It was a much better quality fake than the first one, but not worth $2000!

So now I’m looking for another Navitimer, and I must have the small (38mm) version because I have small wrists, so there isn’t much to choose from. And of course I’m a bit gunshy about buying another used one, but I can’t justify the price of a new watch.

So that’s my story.

Michael

Welcome to BreitlingSource Michael, and as you have no doubt already realised there are a lot of people here who will help you safely navigate the minefield of eBay to find a watch that is real.

Good luck with the search!

Thanks all! It's good to see from your signatures that we share a common collecting fetish.

Makes me feel better (or at least self-justifies) for spending ridiculous amounts of money for shiny baubles. :)

Geez, that's the first I ever heard that.

Cary was a small farming town until the late seventies/early eighties when IBM moved a large portion of their workforce to the Research Triangle Park (RTP) between Durham and Raleigh. Cary was well-positioned for commuters, and grew rapidly through the rest of the century and now has a population of around 105,000 of largely high-tech and bio-tech workers and their families. It is home of SAS, a company that is frequently on the list of top ten companies to work for. I don't work for SAS.

We have a soccer park, but no baseball park. The Durham Bulls would be the closest.

Huh. I did not know that. Mr. Google led me to their site and sure enough, they use one of our new city baseball parks, or share the park, or some such thing. Very cool. It is a very nice complex of 8 or so fields. I've driven by it, but not stopped to watch a game.

I misunderstood the original post, which didn't help me any.

Couldn't find an emoticon for being stupid. :?
