I think with a watch like the Navitimers, a lot of people don't really realize that they are worth a lot of money too... but you'd figure customs officers would know. I don't think customs guys would think you bought a fake Navi in the Carribean tho

Ok I concede, perhaps the customs official was just lazy. But, I will admit there was a woman behind me who had 5 huge luggages on a rent-a-cart. So maybe he was more concentrated on investigating what was in her huge ass luggages than my watch.

haha.. yeah no doubt... if it were 5 huge ass Monogrammed Louis Vuitton luggages you'd be home free! They'd be like "get this young guy with the Navi outta the way so we can search the MotherLoad Lady behind him!"

My dad was asked about his Franck Muller when we were waiting for our luggage after getting through customs.. they have like 3 levels of customs check now.

Hi All - I'm a Breitling newbie heading down to the Caribbean this weekend. I am interested in Avenger Skyland, Chrono Avenger (maybe some NOS available?) or Super Avenger. Based on what I have read, selection in the Caribbean is amazing but discounts may or may not be amazing.

I saw the two videos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN9WZGx9avU and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ay0lClFsazg) and it looks like Little Switzerland (not much of a discount anymore?) and AH Riise in St. Thomas need to be checked out.

Since schedule is tight, I won't be able to do serious shopping at each stop. So I was hoping that anyone who had been there recently could advise me as to where to look for my Breitling. Basically what is my best bet from these stops:

San Juan, Puerto Rico
Barbados
St. Lucia
Antigua
Tortola, British V.I.
St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

Thanks in advance.

You'll get 20% off without even asking at most of the shops in the Caribbean. You might want to contact Roffensian for a good Canadian AD to work with to see if you can get a better deal at home. If you want to check with an AD in the US, send me a PM and I can give you his information.

I bought a Superocean Steelfish with a ProII bracelet and a Pro diver strap for $2575.00 last August at Little Switzerland in St. Thomas. The list is $3055.00. I didn't ask for any discouts, that was the price they gave. I might have been able to do better if I had haggled a bit but I was pleased with the price.

The selection is out of this world. Case after case of Breitlings. There are several stores in town. I went to the main store downtown. Oh and yes, I walked out with my Breitling cap in hand.

Check La Swiss first for a reference price before you go down. Also, you can phone Little Switzerland for a sneak preview on prices.

Buy in Canada, discounts are easily had. In Caribbean you may get 20 % discount on US prices, add exchange of 25-30% for canadian funds and you won't save that much. Plus get caught at Customs and you'll have a bad day.
At any rate, hope you buy the watch you want and enjoy it .

Usual offer stands of a contact with a Canadian AD - certainly better than 20% and no exchange rates.

Hi Guys - just got back. Went to several stores on different islands, and selection is indeed impressive and you'll be offered 15-20% discount right off the bat.

However, as others have pointed out below, thanks to the current exchange rate and the potential for hassles from Customs, looks like Canadians are better off buying from an AD in Canada.

By way of example, the Avenger Skyland with calfskin strap was offered to me for $3450 USD which is almost $4300 CAD today. Doesn't add up for a Canadian. However, depending on where you're from, buying in the Caribbean may add up for you.

Thanks again.

Since I live in China where they have a huge luxury tax, making it too expensive to buy luxury goods like watches, I decided to buy my Navitimer World on a business trip to Hong Kong. I just called several shops in Hong Kong to first check out the list price and then ask how much discount they could give. You can also figure out which shops have your watch in stock and which ones need to order it.

I would advise the same for traveling to the Caribbean. Call ahead to several shops, ask the list price and calculate the prices with the expected discount (in the Caribbean about 20% standard, 25% max; based on previous posts).
Then decide if it is worth the hassle.

Different countries have different official maximum discounts. Example:
PR of China=25%
Hong Kong=25% (I got 30% from an undisclosed AD :D )
Singapore=25%
But since list prices differ per country and currencies rise and fall you have to check for yourself if it is interesting.
List prices in Singapore are cheaper than Hong Kong, and I can get 30% discount at one shop as well, so my next watch will be added very shortly on my holiday to Singapore.

Last year I purchased my Super Ocean Heritage 46 at Bared in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. They offered a 20% discount. There are 2 locations in Old San Juan and another in Plaza Las Americas, the giant mall there. They all have a great selection of Breitlings!! Good Luck!

I understood you'd "sold your wife to buy a Super Avenger" !

Fair trade... :nana:

I find this interesting. When I saw the title of this thread, I automatically assumed the answer was, "The prices have GOT to be way MORE expensive, the way that those tourist traps try to gouge travellers on a lot of things".

Huh... was considering doing a theme cruise this November, that my wife and I have had fun on before and want to do again. Maybe I could use this shady-economics to persuade her... "well, honey, you know I've been looking to buy a Breitling. If we took that Home Theater cruise to the Caribbean this fall, we'd actually end up saving money on the watch, so..." :) Talk about win-win-win for me, if that happened, I'd get a nice 'Ling, fun on a cruise, and save a bit of money on the watch.

Hmmmm.... cruise prices right now are the BEST they've ever been, with the economy.
