Paid a visit to my AD yesterday. Just sold two of my Breitlings last week, and am new in the process of seeking out my "special" 60th Birthday watch, as I will turn 60 this year in October.
I had my heart set on getting a Panerai, my favourite being the PAM 210, Radiomir basic. However, with the lack of (IMHO) satisfactory AD support here in Vancouver, I am reluctantly going to scrap the idea. Whatever I get, I simply want to purchase it from my AD who has supplied me with my Breitlings for over 10 years and excellent service to go with.
I went in yesterday, with the thought of looking at the Breitling Blackbird and perhaps an Omega. I mentioned that my favourite Omega is the new Hour Vision, not only for the aesthetics but because of the new Caliber 8500 movement, with the beautiful exhibition back and sides as well. Unfortunately, the watch - even in its stainless steel form - is just out of my price range.
It was then - and I might add, with considerable glee and enthusiasm - that he showed me a brand new Seamaster Aqua Terra which is now sporting the new 8500 movement! This is simple an incredibly gorgeous work of art. The stainless steel one that he has, has got a beautiful new dial (apparently designed with the teak decking on a ship in mind), in a new shade called Tech Grey. The dial colour quite simply takes on - and enhances - any colour that it is worn with. Here is a link to some of the better photos I have seen of this watch:

This does have the exhibition back, but not the saphire at the sides, like the Hour Vision.
The other thing that really blows me away, is the fact that this watch is such a timeless design, yet it incorporates all the very best and latest Omega technology. Even small details like the calendar, which now has a surround and shape like the Hour Vision. I could tell someone that I had the watch for 20 years, and it would be believable. Simply classic is definitely the word. The price is also more in my range at $5640CAD.
My AD has a particular affection for the Omega brand, as that is where he trained for years as he was learning watchmaking.
The more I think about this watch, the more I think it may be "The One".

Looks pretty good. I dont know what it is though, but I HATE the propeller blade looking design on the rotor. Every time ive seen it it just rubs me the wrong way.

Carl, I will have to pop in and have a look for myself, maybe next saturday with you!
I have not liked the seamaster line for a quite a few years due to it in my opinion looking cheap and tacky with the bracelet and blue dial, just did not look or feel substantial.
With this one that changes, the bracelet reminds me of the oyster from Rolex and I love the dial, as each day goes by I love the vertical striations on my cockpit more and more, I think it looks classic.
I really love the George Daniels inspired movement, to own something that is a connection to that particular master watchmaker is special indeed. I think it would look great on a black croco as well!

I actually went to Birks today, and also Siba jewellers in Pacific Centre Mall. Neither of them had a new version Aqua Terra, and Siba only had the previous model with the older movement, the number of which escapes me. The dial on the old one is really nothing special, no special treatment, and the date window is just a cutout in the dial. The new Aqua Terra, on the other hand, is many steps above, and now in the class of the Hour Vision. The "Tech Grey" dial is just a beautiful shade as well. Mind you, I think this new model is a lot more money than the old one, too.

I just saw this post Carl, what a great watch! Gorgeous! And that bracelet looks awesome.

It is a bit small for my 7.75" wrist, but if it was a bit bigger or my wrist a bit smaller I would be all over it. I am sure you will love it.

I like how far the numbers are recessed compared to the wedged indicators.

If I remember correctly, the frame that contains those numbers is actually angled upward a bit from the dial, to the inside of the bezel, and it appears to give that effect. I went to my AD today, and put a nice deposit on the watch, they will hold it for me until the funds from the sale of my 2 watches are cleared. I was too busy drooling to notice that thing with the numbers! I will go in on the weekend and have a look. I am absolutely mezmerized by the dial! The tech grey is an outstanding colour, and the details on the dial amazing. Once again, the pics don't do it justice, although there are some excellent photos out there.
I had another look at the Hour Vision which, until I saw the Agua Terra, was my great love. The thing that clinches it for me, is the simplicity, detail and colour of the dial on the Aqua Terra.
Isn't life surprising. A year ago, I would not have believed that I would be selling 2 Breitlings and buying an Omega!
But it's a pure fun!

I just ordered one with the white dial. I am picking it up on Saturday. Its funny I also went in with my heart set on the Hour Vision and the AT just stood out. About 20 minutes later I decided on the AT with the silver opaline teak dial. I am counting down the minutes until 10:00 am saturday morning.

Sounds just great! I won't be picking mine up for another couple of weeks. Take some pics of the new AT if you don't mind. I haven't seen one on the silver dial, just the Grey-Tech like the one I'm getting. Only 3 more sleeps!

Odd that you should say that, because I was thinking just yesterday how little sentiment I really do have attached to the Steelfish and the AS Blacksteel, the two that I am selling. I am actually parting with another watch that I bought over a year ago: a Raymond Weil Don Giovanni, with guilloche dial, very simple and no date. It really is quite small, although the lugs on the watch are almost the same size as the case, so the bracelet looks very wide. Again, no wrist time. I am using it at my AD as a trade, in order to get a 25% discount on the Omega. So it looks like I am actually selling 3 watches to get the Omega. In fact, I had intended just to bank the money from the 2 Breitlings, and just wait until something special really caught my eye. I had actually gone in to see my AD and look at a Blackbird, which I had my eye on for some time. That's when the Omega thing came up. Sometimes I do the oddest things. I am now wearing my SS Seawolf, which I couldn't wait to get after I first saw it in the flesh. Now I have a notion that I might sell it as well, and try to find a preowned titanium Seawolf with grey dial. I can't afford to own a collection, so it seems as though I am trying to narrow it down to one or two watches. I was perfectly happy with my SuperOcean with PRO I bracelet, from 1997 to 2008, then suddenly I just went mad and got 5 watches within about the last year!
Well, who said one can't be happy with only one watch - as long as it's a good one!
