And now the plot thickens........

First AD now back to me saying that their price wasn't concrete at the time they quoted it, and they have now discovered that it was incorrect.

They also said that if I felt that $10,000 was too high a deposit (now why would anyone think that???) then they would accept $1,000.

That's a a fairly substantial drop I would say.

Interesting times indeed - at this rate by Monday we'll be discussing how much they are going to pay me to be an ambassador

One of them definitely gives me that impression (the first one).

The second is a fairly well known retailer of less common exclusive brands (Urwerk, Cvstos, De Witt, etc), and I do trust them based on reputation, although no personal dealings.

Sounds like they really want your (or maybe any  ) business if they're now willing to take a 'token' deposit.

I personally quite like it, would certainly be very cool to have some moon on your wrist. Be interesting to hear the final price. Please keep us updated.

It's $1,600 rather than $2,500 ($12,900 / $14,500), but I agree with you. His excuse was that they had been told that the prices would be "from the $13,500 - $14,500 range" and he quoted me the high number to be on the safe side. That's total BS because when I got back in contact after Basel started my question was whether the official prices had been announced. If he didn't know the price then all he had to say was 'not yet'.

The guy has blown any chance of getting my business, but that doesn't mean I can't use his position as leverage with other ADs. I think he was just trying to be clever and got caught, but he needs to be careful because I know for an absolute fact that Romain Jerome do not allow their ADs to sell for more than list.

Roff, I am really hoping you get this puppy, I love it and would love to see some real pictures of it as opposed to the tarted up publicity shots!

OK, now I'm even more annoyed.

Guess who won't be getting my business!!

Of course now that I know I can get it for $12,900 and 25% down............

Hi Roff,
Sometimes, these things are just ludicrous. When I get into a situation like the one you are in, I just tell myself that I wasn't meant to have the item.
I was so geared up to get a Panerai. I started by visiting the only AD here in Vancouver, and the whole place is so shrouded in pretense, that I would never consider going in there again. Then there is the whole stigma attached to the Panerai thing: they are so hard to get, and so few made, that they only allow one AD per city. There are more thoughts that I have about the whole business now, which I will now not go into. Like you, I am completely turned off.
So, after selling 2 Breitlings last week, and having the money coming in shortly, I went to my AD yesterday, he spent over an hour with me, we discussed a new Omega at length, the whole thing was such a positive experience that it just felt right. Even though that is not the watch I had my heart set on, when I get it I will know that it is the one I will really wear with pride.
Like a few of the othes have said, there are lots of other watches out there. If it doesn't feel right, and is anything but a pleasure - which getting a new watch should be - then don't do it. Good for you for not doing it.
Cheers,
Carl

I am sure you will be happy with the watch Roff, and I hope this situation settels into a comfortable one for you. personaly I have to say there are about 200 watches I can think of in that range that I would rather get first. I mean thats AP ROO, IWC BI/BP, VC Overseas Chrono money right there, and that watch seems a bit gimmicky to me.

There are other Lunar inspired watches I would rather get if thats where you are at, the Piaget Calibre 860P is a gorgeous watch. Just marvelous.

It's certainly big money, but I'm looking for something totally different, and this one does float my boat. Not the only one by any means - I'm looking at another brand as well that's slightly more well known, but also not mainstream, and I got marginally outbid on something truly unique yesterday.

I'm just in the mood for some completely 'different' pieces in my collection right now.

Still not sure about this one, but I have time to figure it out.

I agree with Roff and think the moon watch is one of a kind. If and when I have the funds for a piece in that price range I would surely get one.. I'm a little biased because I'm sort of a SciFi geek and watched every "The Universe" episode at least 3 times.(Neil deGrasse Tyson is the man!) Plus they look very sharp. It's made with moon dust! How cool is that? I really hope you get this. I would love to see it on a wrist.
Roff: Please don't give up. :D
