Finally managed to get my Steelfish a leather strap. It looks AWESOME. It looks a lot more refined to me, for some reason.

I have the silver dial Steelfish as well. Have a Pro2 and a Diver Pro strap for it. I had not considered leather but, man I think that looks great. Dang, now look what you have made me do. Got to start wishing all over again.

You are right, it does make the watch look more refined. I found that as well, when I got the same brown leather strap for my Seawolf. Breitling does make an excellent quality leather strap, there is no doubt about it.
However, after wearing the strap for a couple of months, I was starting to get tired of the tapered and narrow look. The Breitling watches, especially the Aeromarine line, are so substantial looking, that I found the strap to be almost too refined. I have since ordered an aftermarket strap, with no taper. And I have put on the Diver Pro strap that originally came with this watch. Although the Diver Pro is tapered, because of it's design it looks a lot more substantial than the leather.
I find the Breitling leather straps are a lot better suited to the models in the Windrider line, which are themselves more refined.
It is still a great looking combination, and this is just my personal opinion after owning the strap for a couple of months. I will probably put the strap back on one day. In the meantime, part of the fun of owning these watches is being able to have so many choices in the bracelet/strap department.
I actually like the strap better on your Steelfish than my Seawolf. They are both 22mm lugs, but the Steelfish is a smaller and thinner case, so the strap looks more in proportion to me. Since seeing your excellent pics, I am going to try the strap on my Steelfish, although it has the black dial.
Cheers,
Carl

I was also surprised at how refined the Steelfish can be. When I started to lust after this particular watch, I was going to get something more like a thick, leather aviator's strap (like the Di-Modell "Jumbo") or maybe a buffalo leather strap. Something substantial and rugged-looking. When I actually got the watch (got it off the Bay for a total steal, especially since it was BNIB with all paperwork), I realized that although it is still a "tough" watch, there was a large aspect of refinement to it as well. I decided that the aviator's straps just would not quite match the potential of the watch. So I just went with the Breitling leather strap. The instant the strap went on the watch, I knew I had done the right thing. I am amazed at how refined-yet-still-tough the watch looks. It is remarkable how much a strap/bracelet change can alter the character of a watch. It's like clothing on people: you can change the look of a person just by changing their clothes, but there are also some clothes that just "are" the person.

I can totally see your point about the Seawolf. That watch is more basic/functional in style, and everything about it is "big and bold." It looks awesome, too, but I think one needs to play more to the "tough" side of the watch. Therefore, it wants a more substantial strap or a rubber one.

Thanks for your comments, everyone! Someday, I may be tempted to get a black rubber strap for it, too. It will be like getting a whole again.

I have that same strap on my Black Colt II Auto. It looks great. The Steelfish will be my next watching and I may even do that exact combo. Thanks for posting that pic. It helped me make up my mind!
