Jeez, I've been interested since last year in what the CFB A1000 was going to go in............. and when it finally arrives it's quite hideous! What a let down.

Yeah I was really disappointed as well.

A couple of years ago CFB were well up on my list of desires, and last year the Travel-Tec Four X was very tempting, but with watches upcoming with the A1000 it seemed to make sense to wait. Don't know why I bothered now - no idea where Bucherer are going these days.

I agree. The Patravi Traveltec GMT is one heck of a handsome watch, and I was hoping they'd just do an updated version of that with the CFB A1000 in it.

I am with you guys, I still think the Travel Tec GMT is a great looking watch, but what with where the company is going, it might not be for me. Looks like they are still finding themselves.

Nubeo is an odd-fish (no pun intended, given their "marine creature" inspirations!) of a company in my opinion. I came across these a few weeks back on the Mark Worthington website, and at first glace they struck me as looking a little like an Oakley watch or something.

However if you dig a little deeper, the reviews they receive from owners are amazing. I've seen a couple (and not by the same bloke!) talk about Patek levels of workmanship! The Doppel Chronograph in gold and black rubber looks pretty fine to me, and I think we'd all agree they are quite unlike anything else around at the moment. Which brings me onto the movements. Why or why, when they clearly put huge amounts of effort into their multi-MULTI-piece cases, do they spoil the party by just dropping in a decorated standard ETA? If the price point was a little less "optimistic" you'd say that was OK, but they charge incredible sums of cash for these pieces, so really all you are buying is an interesting case in various nice materials. More jewellery rather than serious timepieces I'm afraid. But then they are a very young company and if they survive (which may be tough given their pricing strategy and unique looks) I'm sure they can work on the movement side if they want to. Of course they may decide to stay (like Chanel for example) as primarily jewellery pieces, but either way an interesting company and concept.

I understand and agree with the sentiment, but don't forget that's how most companies initially made their names - cases and finishing. The technology comes later and whether we can understand it or not, the vast majority of buyers won't care about the engine.

So what's the go with Baselworld Roff (and others who are in the know?) I assume it's somewhat similar to an annual industry convention (like alcohol say) where all the brands/makers gather in a central location and discuss shop, changes, releases, movements etc for the upcoming year.

Makes sense that the smaller players ply their information early leaving the big guns to steal the thunder throughout. I understand there's no retail at the fair but AD's still get to place orders??

Is there any other major purpose of Baselworld. Do they conference for example i.e. experts are asked to present seminars on a range of topics (movements, advances...)

These days it's more of a 'commercial' than anything else - think auto show type of format. Joe Public pays to drool over watches and the brands hope that they attract more people to their watches as a result. There is obviously a little more of a high end bent to it than your neighbourhood car show, but you know what I mean.

Sure there are AD / distributor deals done, but you don't need the public spectacle for that. Press day is on the 25th and that's no doubt when the big unveilings will occur - like the B01's new home.

Another fan of the Travel Tec models (and the Chronograde as well) here, but I agree with you guys, that new model isn't doing it for me at all.
