Very nice looking watch but I am not familiar with this brand. Could you tell me what the "lever-toggle" thing at approximately the 8:00 position does?

It is made in Italy. the dials are on the oppisite side. it is a cover (waterproof cover with a gasket) to the setting dials

One simple question: Is it comfortable to wear the entire day?
Judging by the pic, it seems, to me at least, that it might get "in the way".......

you got that right. I never wear the Datejust it seems like a ladies watch now (no offense to anyone). the GMT was my grandfathers It is a 1969 restored by rolex.
