Hi Guys,

Firstly, can I say: great site.
I have enjoyed reading up on may of the thread topics recently and gathered a lot of useful information.

Well I am about to enter the world of Breitling very shortly with my first 'ling' purchase.

For many years I have always been drawn to the aerospace model and several years later I am still drawn to the watch and am now in a position to buy one ... at last !

Its just a watch that has always appealed to me and the current design I feel is the best yet.

Having read through many threads on here, I was struggling to find many posts on the aerospace so came to the assumption that it is perhaps not one of the more common models amongst you guys ... I know it is not the most unique watch in the Breitling range and the styling is very much like it or hate it perhaps. I do like a lot of the other watches in the range but unfortunately they are out of my price bracket.

In any case, the Aerospace is the one for me and I am very excited at the prospect of finally owning one of my own and having a "ling" on my wrist.

I have tried one on and will be ordering in the next few weeks. One thing which has interested me is the comments about discount. I will be purchasing in the UK from an AD and I feel that a minimum of 20% discount should be attainable ... does that sound reasonable ?

I have picked up on comments about the lower ling models having more room for negoatiation (like the aero) and with credit crunch / economy as it is, I am hoping this will influence the AD in lowering their price and being hungry for the sale ... plus I will be ordering a colt oceane for the wife too (so actually getting TWO lings)

With regards the the aerospace model, i would be very interested to hear people's comments on the watch in general. I am going for the titanium strap and black face model.

Lovely watch to start your collection, I'd personally have the grey dial one as it looks so like the dial and case are all the same colour but individual taste is what makes us unique.

I'm sure you will love the many functions and simplicity of use...be sure to post us some pictures when you get it.

as far as negotiation goes, I've never managed more than 20% on a breitling and 15% is the norm in the UK...much better in USA but then the pound is currently worth two buttons and an old bus ticket!

Hi Doc and thanks for your comments.

The grey face is nice and to be honest that was my choice of colour until very recently.
I have just been drawn to the black face for some reason.
The ling logo and numerals do stand out well against the black background.
There is an excellent picture of the watch in the current breitling catalogue.
The black face is the feature picture (large pic) & shows off the detail of the watch really well.

In terms of discounts in the UK, thanks for your advice too.
If I know that 25% is perhaps a little challenging and 20% is more realistic, then at least I can set my targets accordngly.
If I start at 25% and conclude a deal at 20% I will be very happy with that.

Glad you recommend the Aero as a good introduction to the breitling range too.

Great choice on the aerospace, I was seriously tempted into one before i found my navitimer. My girlfriends father has one, and has never had any problems with it at all, he never seems to be without it! He purchased it from Berry's jewelers in Nottingham, and managed around a 20% discount, and that was a year or so ago. I've dealt with Berry's in Leeds before and always found them to be brilliant, a great AD to start a relationship with. Welcome to the club!

p.s. I prefer the black face too!

Especially encouraging is the "positive" remarks towards the aerospace.

After the lack of discussion about it on this site I was at one point thinking I was getting the black sheep of the Breitling range

Clearly not though

Interesting points of AD info too & I am within an hour of both Nottingham and Leeds too, so that is a real possibility of visiting those Dealers.

Hey Guys would appreciate your input on a thought I have had after finding another very useful thread on this site.

At first I discarded the idea of the rubber straps, but after seeing more pics of them, I find myself really liking them !

What do you guys think to the aerospace with black face combined with a Ocan Racer strap.
I seam to be drawn to this type as the fastening buckle is very attractive.

There is another recent thread on rubber straps and I think the overall look is fantastic.

Just want some reassurance that this combo could work on an Aero then I may have a "strap" decision to make !

didn't think the ocean racer buckle was available in titanium and steel would look a bit odd with it...however, I haven't checked so might be talking rubbish

Hmmm actually you may have a point there.

Although the ocean racer strap is available as an option with the Aero, you have got me wondering about the clasp / buckle now.

You can brush the buckle and it will look close to Ti.

Aren't there factory brushed buckles available to the OR now? I thought so, but might be wrong.

Go with the titanium bracelet and get yourself an ocean racer afterward. The Pro II is terrific, and youll be kicking yourself later on if you dont have one.

The aero is a great model...Its just that most of us subscribe to the "bigger and heavier is better" theory, so the aero isnt even a consideration.

So it sounds like the rubber strap option could be a route open to me - with the brush finish clasp / buckle ... & I will need to give this some thought as the Ocean racer strap combined with the Aero does appeal to me.

However, the general feeling is that the pro II steel bracelet is really the way forward and I have read a lot of positive comments about the pro II strap.

**UPDATE**

Just received word from Breitling as follows ...

The Ocean racer only comes with a polished steel clasp which is not the same as the matt steel of the Aerosspace itself however, there is a further option of the Driver Pro watch (black rubber, much like the ocean racer) which comes with a pin buckle as apposed to a clasp. The pin buckle is available in both matt or polished steel.

So it looks like the Ocean racer strap is NOT an option to me combined with the Aero, if I want the strap to match the watch.

So its metal strap or Diver Pro rubber bracelet then.
