acceldebt,

Please classify my watch. I have got a 2007 model Superocean Steelfish on the ProII bracelet... I know what you thinking - I should have bought the Full Ling first up, but budget and my inner voice of reason convinced me otherwise.

I think the Steelfish should at least be a 3/4 Ling, my reasoning is as follows:

Diameter of 44mm - only 2mm short of full Ling status
Lug width of 22mm - only 2mm short of full Ling status
It is on a steel bracelet

There are Lings out there that are smaller than the Steelfish. Might I be so bold as to suggest that you factor in thickness to the "Ling Status" equations aswell? Should full lings have a minimum thickness of say perhaps 16mm?

Look forward to hearing from you, if it turns out that I still only have a 1/2 Ling, I will take comfort in knowing that my watch can go deeper than any full Ling :-)

Regards

Graeme

Graeme,

Let's take the positive approach here. It is a substantial watch, it's chunky and has a good presence, you did get it on a steel bracelet. So let's go with a rating of 5/8 of a Ling for now and be pleased that you are learning as you go along. The Full Ling will soon follow as others on this forum will attest to.

True dat.

Don't sell yourself short. Go for the gusto. You'll not be satisfied until you own just one.

Thanks guys, Im happy with a 5/8 Ling... for now :-) I would like to get either an Avenger Skyland (not the black steel version) or Super Avenger next. When I bought my Steelfish I tried on a Super Avenger with a rubber strap. I think the rubber put me off of the watch, but after seeing one with the full steel bracelet - Im sold! The AD's shouldnt give you a Ling with a rubber strap to try on to see if you like the watch or not.

acceldebt and Brian. How lond did it take you guys to get your collections to where they are today? from what I have read on this forum you have got some awesome watches

Grey,

Get the Super Avenger next and then get the Bentley Motors. After that you are sufficiently LINGED.

My collection is not near as nice as some of these guys here on the forum.

I've owned a few watches in my time, but never anything over $1000 until May of 2006. I purchased my Fortis in May 2006, My Rolex in September of 2006, and my Breitling in September of 2007.

I would like to expand my collection faster, but my wife would kill me. I can buy one per year. I'm on watch probation until next September.

Brian,

I hear what you are saying about watch probation. One of these days I am going to have to buy an engagement ring. So the moral dilemma I face is, another Ling or engagement ring!! Any advice?

So many things I would like to do aswell like get my pilots license (been a dream of mine ever since I could say "aeroplane"), also want to buy a 42" LCD TV to watch sports. O well, off to buy a lottery ticket

What about if you purchase say the Breitling Bentley Motors, and then propose to your future wife. Say the Motors is a man's engagement ring. So your future wife will not have to worry about losing an expensive diamond ring, you shall wear the Motors timepiece to symbolize your union of marriage.

Grey,

I have 3 LCD's a 26", a 45" and a 52". So I can speak from experience on this matter too. Get the Full Ling and the Full LCD. This would be a Super avenger and the Sharp Aquos 52 inch LCD TV. If you have the Full Ling you need the Full LCD

defiancekofb,

I have actually had those exact thoughts, expensive watch = my "engagement ring"... i think thats reasonable?

Timing is everything. I just have to wait for the right time. Must just make sure that the watch doesnt have more bling than the diamond :-)

acceldebt,

I like your style, LCD's are definately the way to go. Had a look the Aquos on the web, it looks very good! If only these things were made to last as long as our Lings!

Cant think of a better way to watch sports than on a high def 52" LCD screen... the simple things in life are often the best

Saw an Avenger Skyland over the weekend. Your thoughts?

Grey,

As Admin said the Avenger Skyland is fine but the Super Avenger is better. Don't make the same mistake as others and be sorry later get the Super Avenger first. I did the same with the Bentley, I got the GT first because I "Thought" the real Bentley was too big and then I ended up with the real Bentley. These big watches are only too big for the first 2 hours that you wear them, then they become just a great watch and when you go back and put on the smaller ones they are too small.

Be sure to do the engagement ring first. Do it up right. You've only got one chance to make a lasting impression on your future wife. After that, drop another B-Ling on your wrist. She'll be completely happy.

As for the pilot license, take a discovery flight at your local airport where lessons are given. Make sure it's right for you. Once you get started, it's hard to get out of your system.
