I think the Emergency Mission is very fitting. And, he should have it re-configured to dial up the Treasury directly when he wants to pump more money into the economy.

And, we all (roughly 2,400 members of this forum) should contribute $2 to $3 each and buy him the EM. It can be the first step in re-distributing the wealth.

Sorry for taking this discussion in another direction

As I have posted before, Obama is going to receive a Vulcain. I think it is an unbelievable watch and have inquired with Vulcain reps about a non-anniversary model.

Vulcain's really are great watches - it's good to see them come back into popular focus, and at reasonable prices.

In terms of this thread - I think a Chronomat would suit him well

I posted about that Vulcain in the Breitlingsource Blog http://blog.breitlingsource.com/2009/01 ... n-cricket/

:( And you linked those guys instead

PS: lets try and keep this thread clean guys :)

I admit, that was a bit nasty – when I think of this juncture in history, and the challenges facing President Obama, I get emotional. There is something so personal about watches – something about the symbolism involved here that made me wonder what kind of world we really live in?

I just want The Man to have a nice timepiece – this is history baby, and the fate of the US and the Free World will happen as each minute passes on President Obama’s watch…

Didn't I read a post on here about a guy who knew someone with the Secret Service emblem on the dial of a Ling??? Or am I crazy? Could be crazy, but that'd be a fitting watch...Signed, Crazy :woohoo:

No, you're not crazy. I had lunch with a SS agent and he was sporting a Colt (auto I think) with the USSS logo at 6 o'clock on the blue dial and a black diver pro strap. I'm still trying to get him to send me a pic.

Why does the Secret Service buy watches with Japanese movements?

[quote="ianmedium"]Well I was trying my hardest on the say to identify the watch he was wearing but do not have the facilities to freeze frame or such, it was either white gold platinum or stainless with a black face and it looked to be either a chronograph or one with several complications as the dial had sub dials, it was on a black strap as well and looked to be about 44mm dia, anyone any ideas if they have seen the images?
Edit, ahh, google is a wonderful thing! Here is the watch her was wearing I am pretty sure, and it was the watch mentioned by the originator of the thread, a secret service watch!

Thanks for the post. I actually really like the looks of that watch. From that, my opinion would be that he wear a SOH Chrono, black dial with mesh bracelet. I have taken such a liking to this man, that if I could afford it, I would buy him one myself and send it to him myself!
Cheers,
Carl

While I'm not a fan of Obama, I would like to see our President wearing a respectable watch. Seeing how Bush wore that Casio? I think, everyday even with suits. Nothing against Casios or Timexes, its just they are better left for workouts and sports, not meetings with Senate Comittees and other Heads Of State from around the world.

What Breitling suits him best? I dont know, he's polished but not flashy. Intelligent, but still seems down to earth. Id say for a dress watch Go with a Rose Gold Navitimer World on a Black Crocodile Strap. And for an everyday Breitling I'd like to see him wear a Brushed Blackbird on a Bracelet.

As far as buying him one Carl, hopefully he can turn around somethings financially which would allow us to buy one not only for him, but a few more for ourselves. 8)

I think you will find you are absolutely correct.

The watch would definitely carry a locating beacon or similar so they can track his location, just in case they ever lost him!

He certainly has the money, what with his book royalties.

That being said, I don't think he'd want to necessarily deal with the inevitable class warfare type criticism that would come from wearing a multi-thousand dollar timepiece when lots of the folks who voted for him are being thrown out of work.

I think the SS model he's wearing is appropriate. He is a public official, not a pro athelete/celebrity, and should conduct himself as such.

Also note that David Petraeus was photographed wearing a Rolex submariner or sea-dweller at a series of hearings last year dealing with the Iraq war. The mainstream media did not seem to make a big deal out of this but from what I understand it caused quite a ruckus in certain branches of the armed services. So people do notice this type of thing.

Yeah, there is no doubt about it – politicians are obviously advised by PR consultants not to be seen wearing high end watches. But I have to wonder about the sentiment, which I’m sure many share, that “He is a public official, not a pro athlete/celebrity, and should conduct himself as such.”

Now, I respect elite athletes, and celebrities who are such because of musical/theatrical talent. But a cynic might suggest that accomplished lawyers who go on to public life and four star Generals spend their time conducting more important affairs than ball kickers and manufactured pop stars…

Manufactured American Idol politicians exempted, of course. 8) The man IS a celebrity, position aside.

Any man of importance should pay equal attention to every piece of his wardrobe, watch included. I think the more subdued, the better. Chronomat on leather is a great suggestion.

But at the end of the day, Obama can wear whatever, and get a pass. We all know this, c'mon.
