Awesome piece, Roff. Congratulations.

I guess it's getting some wrist time - size & weight-wise, how does it wear?

Cheers,

Nick

It's indentical to a Motors in size.

In fact, case-wise, it's a cross between a Motors and a Motors T. The bezel is Motors T-like (although technically the Le Mans was the first with that bezel type), but the case is all polished like a Motors.

My Le Mans is my favourite piece by a mile.

Agreed on all of that.

My Le Mans is obviously my favourite piece right now as it's the newest, but I consciously buy watches only when I know that I will keep them - I've never sold a watch that wasn't specifically bought to be sold, so I try to avoid a 'favourite'. Some get more wrist time than others, and some are more winter / than summer, but if I had to pick a favourite it would always be the next one

I've promised Mrs. Roff that there will be no more significant acquisitions until I know what's announced at Basel - but 'significant' is such a arelative term

It's a great watch!

Hey Driver8 - how come you have "Taxationville, Rip-Off-Britain" in your profile?
I live in New York City so I pay Federal tax, then State tax AND THEN City tax.
I pay more than 55c in the $ tax these days.
That's before taxes go up as the city's tax base declines...
:? :? :? :? :?

And before the newly inaugurated President jacks them up higher!!
In fairness to D8, UK, when all taxation is considered, pays about 70% of their total income in taxes, Sweden pays nearly 85%, US pays around 50% (for now, as noted). This is all available from various sources (Barrons, WSJ, Investors Business Daily etc..) those numbers were from 2005 (last time I had to write something on it). I think that is the cornerstone of his gripe. Although, for the US, you have a SIGNIFICANT bitch there HO! NYC is nuts expensive to live!

That's why I'll never be able to retire in this city.
This place just sucks cash out of your wallet.

I think taxes will go up and standard of living will go down as it'll take a long time to recover.

However - I don't mind paying taxes when it aids society and minimizes pork barrelling.

Two things that are always promised and never happen, just the opposite on both counts actually. Sad.

:? :? :? :? :?

I feel a pseudo-political soap-box moment coming on here!

Reasons for the "Taxationville" are pretty much as outlined by Boney - and primarily due to the fact that in my opinon the revenue from that taxation is poorly spent (more on which later!). It also stems from the fact that UK prices have always been higher than the US in real terms in relation to average wage. And in specific Breitling terms, until VERY recently, a 5 or 10% discount in the UK would be considered astoundingly great, compared to 20 to 25% discounts in the US. As I've said on other threads, I'm not a big fan of mega-discounting per se as it devalues the brand IMO, but I wish the world was an even playing field. It pains me that the UK must pay (close to) full Breitling RRP, whereas in the US you can buy a Breitling for TAG money. Oh AND we get no merchandise either, even when we pay full retail!

The close on 70% (real terms) taxation, plus the fact that almost all of that tax is frittered away by this FANTASTIC government on cr*p instead of something that would make a difference (like healthcare, like a decent education system, like a decent police force instead of just more speed cameras, etc, etc, etc), plus the general cost of living here makes this place Rip-Off-Britain IMO.

It's far from the land of milk and honey that most non-Brits seem to think it is! So, we have high cost of living, a National Health Service that's in intensive care (you're lucky to get out of hospital alive!), reduced police-force, constant cut backs in the armed forces (even though we still march around the world stage like we're something special), a feeble dumbed-down education system (it's truly amazing how exam pass rates go up EVERY SINGLE year, but then I guess that's not surprising when I read this year that a kid was given 2 marks on an English paper for simply writing "F@*K OFF!" on it - apparently the marks were awarded because he had spelt it correctly and used the exclamation mark properly  ), drunken and knife-wielding chavs on every corner, rampant "yob-culture", rat-infested dustbins only emptied once every 2 weeks due to cut-backs, etc, etc....... the list of where we simply aren't getting value for money for our taxes is endless.

I've said it before, but I think the UK is fast becoming the most expensive 3rd world country on Earth.

(PS - Apologies for sullying a perfectly good thread with a somewhat political rant. )

Well it's my thread so I'll feel free to sully some more....

Canada is well known for high taxation, and for those of us fortunate enough to earn a decent living then it's a lot worse - income tax alone is almost 50% at the margin. But......

Having moved to Canada from the UK nearly 12 years ago I couldn't begin to afford to go back - the cost of living is just ridiculous. Fortunately I have no desire to return, but those of us in North America really do have it lucky on cost of living relative to Europe.
