Dear SOH-owner

I am considering buying a SOH. My question does refer to the turning bezel:

How does the bezel of the SOH compare to other Breitlings (or Omegas etc.)? Are they fine, quality-wise? Of course, they are finished with lacquer / paint and may be somewhat scratch-prone, right?. But what about the durability of the 120-snapping mechanism? Does it work well? Can I use the turning bezel on a daily basis without wearing it down too much?

Thanks for your comments.

V.

My wife has an SOH38 as a knock about watch, and she has had no problems. The bezel is scratched pretty heavily, but there is no damage to the colour - it's obviously not a surface treatment. SHe doesn't use the bezel excessively, but she has had absolutely no problems so far.

I use my '46 as a knock about and what Roff says, I agree 100%. GREAT watch!

It's not a surface treatment? Well that's good to know.

The Chronolog refers to it as being an aluminium insert, so I always assumed it was just annodised. I know it's ceramic like the latest Rolies.

Dear driver8,
What do you mean by "it's ceramic". Thank you for any further information about this bezel.

OK, thanks. But then it's obviously a surface treatment, not painted but anodized, which is durable. Anodization is a surface treatment process for aluminium alloys in order to protect the metal from corrosion, as you probably know.

Omega's Planet Ocean & SMP and maybe the older SUBs use similar technologies and materials. And there are maybe more...

Thanks.

I can't say with any confidence what it is, but I can say that my wife's has some very deep scratches that have not impacted the colour at all.

Well done Roff, you win the prize for spotting the deliberate mistake! Image

I have a habit of typing too quickly and missing out rather key words in sentences these days!

So yes, I can confirm that I know it is NOT ceramic!

Either way, they replace the metal click spring at every service. Even if it broke, its such a simple little piece that I couldnt imagine costs too much to replace.

I replaced a "bezel click spring" on my old Superocean some 4-5 years ago - the AD did it for free!
