Hi Everyone,

Would anyone know if the newer models of Breitling use Super Luminova?

I have a 2005 Super Ocean Chronomat and was thinking of having the hands replaced with Super Luminova ones (if they are available). Our local service centre told me that I could only exchange my hands for "newer" ones but didn't know if they were Super Luminova.

So would the newer Super Ocean Chronomat watches have Super Luminova?

Thanks

All Breitlings use Super Luminova, and have done for quite some time - certainly since before 2005.

Before Super Luminova, tritium was used and you can identify those watches by the T next to Swiss Made at the bottom of the dial.

What I don't know is if there have been any improvments to Super Luminova that would cause 2009 hands to glow brighter and / or longer than 2005 - I'm not aware of any such change.

I'm a big fan of tritium.
Wish it was on all Breitlings...

ok...that's how it looks but the bracelet is different. it still has the straight bracelet. So maybe it's not 2005 haha. It maybe older.

But I certainly don't find the "swiss made" on the dial ... hmm...

Newer models don't have ˝swiss made˝ on the dial.
CSO can't be older than mid to late 2003.

As bnewbie says, a lot of newer watches (including the CSO) don't have Swiss Made on the dial, but trust me - this is not a Tritium watch.

oh...can i safely assume that it has super luminova then? I noticed that the luminosity goes away really fast.

Yes, as I said in my first reply, all Breitlings have used Super Luminova since before 2005.

I've read that Super Luminova doesn't age. Does the glow disappear in a few minutes? I think mine does

Super Luminova will age to some degree, but because it isn't radioactive, there isn't a measurable degredation related to a half life.

The 'charge' held by Super Luminova does fade over minutes and hours, requiring a recharge, and certainly Breitling don't tend to use as much SL as some other brands. so it won't be as bright initially or last as long on a charge.
