Yeah, I found that one, it takes a while to develop, and let's face it, puke emoticons are all about instant shock, so I let it slide.

I love Costco, and I am always suprised at what they sell. I think it is by far the best of the big box retailers.

With regards to Costco selling Breitlings, I am a bit suprised. I have seen Tags, Movados, but never Rolex or Breitling. But I guess considering that my local Costco had several cases of 2005 Bordeaux priced between $200 and $750, I guess they are not afraid to sell some quality products.

I will check next time I am there and see if they have any Breitlings and snap some pics.

My Breitling was insulted when someone said "is that a Invicta?" :x

(At least, I HOPE it happened something like that! :D )

Agreed...

The "invicta" reference reminded me of the following (becuase they also sell invicta): Has anyone seen Breitling models for sale at Costco? As far as i know, they are not an AD (not listed on Breitling site), but the Costco in downtown Vancouver has a SO for sale with the box and papers all on display. ordinarily i wouldn't think that is necessarily good for the brand (?not an AD?, and not a higher end store -- i don't even really know why i think that). They have Rolex, Omega and others, so i guess if it hurt brands, they are at risk too. Anyway, was just curious if anyone knows the buying relationship between Breitling and Costco. (sorry for another OT).

Lots of things come to mind here...

First of all, there is a lot of difference between countries and regions in the countries. I have lived in US, Japan, France, Germany, and the UK. My girlfirend is Dutch and I am over there all the time. My job covers all of Europe. My father is American, my mother French.

I can fully understand that someone from a less urban area of the US would think a Breitling is an Invicta. My father was the distributor for Invicta in the US South-East for a couple of years, and they do a good job of selling the general population. It's a well made watch with various Japanese, and Swiss movements and a lot of them are "tributes" to well known Swiss watch designs, often Rolex. They go for around $200 to $400 retail.

I don't believe a "young professional" in New York or Silicone Valley would make the same mistake, though.

If you look at the awareness of Breitling in London, the Netherlands, France or Germany, my perception is that they are very well known, although no where as much as Rolex. Certainly they will be very well known by the 18-35 male professional demographic. My 19 year old son who now works for a major Medical company in Germany, even told me that now a Breitling is now the "in" thing to have.

I will admit I am a snob as well myself, but I think that Breitlings getting awareness in the "Chavs" demographic just shows that Breitling has managed to position itself in the "pedestrian" luxury segment along with Cartier, Rolex, Burberry, Chanel, etc.

Me, personally, I am more interested (as Roff described) in the history and the aviation connection of the Breitling brand, and prefer it to be less well known (although I'll secretely admit that I am happy for someone to be impressed by it!).

I read an article in Time magazine a few years back that mentioned that they were the largest retailer of wine in the country.

This seems to be an abbreviated version of what I read. Its interesting:
