went into the bank the other day to see the personal banker wear a 'BFB 6.75' got closer and thought mmm fake but asked anyway is that a Bentley, no he says its a BRITling (look on my face thats said 'knob sock') he then followed up with its a fake though i 'treat' myself to one each time i go on a golfing holiday!!

at least he didnt lie to me, obviously not a watch guy and he didnt even fgaze at my arm.

also saw one of the most elusive BFB in tesco on a shop ass arm, was a fake Torbuillon sp looked awful, spotted if from a distance and walked past saying to the little lady oh a Fake BFB a little louder than i probably should have.

If I don't feel like getting into a lengthy discussion I typically say it's about the same as a Rolex but made for a younger man. It may not be entirely accurate but non-watch folk typically get what I mean :?

LOL.. Ive used almost the exact same line before.

Holy crap that is too funny! :uplaugh:
That is EXACTLY what I tell people who ask that question!! Must be a common thought!!!

Hah! funny that it seems to be a fairly common thought :P

It makes no difference to me whether people know what a Breitling is or not to be honest. In terms of recognition, I find people's brand awareness is proportional to how close they are to an AD. There are a couple of Breitling AD's in towns near me, so I tend to come across people that at least know what a Breilting is...... whereas if I mention IWC or Zenith or even Panerai, I am generally greeted with blank faces. (Obviously I am talking about generally "non-watch people" here!)

Apart from just being harassing you, I agree with you. I think most of us have our watches because we like them, not trying to impress anyone else or because of what others think/know.

Agreed...

The "invicta" reference reminded me of the following (becuase they also sell invicta): Has anyone seen Breitling models for sale at Costco? As far as i know, they are not an AD (not listed on Breitling site), but the Costco in downtown Vancouver has a SO for sale with the box and papers all on display. ordinarily i wouldn't think that is necessarily good for the brand (?not an AD?, and not a higher end store -- i don't even really know why i think that). They have Rolex, Omega and others, so i guess if it hurt brands, they are at risk too. Anyway, was just curious if anyone knows the buying relationship between Breitling and Costco. (sorry for another OT).

They are not an AD. They offer their own warranty just like any other gray market dealer.

They are not an AD. They are effectively grey market dealers - a member mentioned some time back that he saw one at Costco with a Dutch AD stamp.

My learned and appreciated friends and fellow enthusiasts.

We are lucky so few really "Know." Breitling....But...Red Bull Air Race IS changing this already, in a good way because it really highlights the aviation heritage of my beloved brand.

But as an aside, I like music...pretty much listen to everything..Rap to Rachmaninov.

AND the Rappers have discovered Breitling is indeed the younger mans' prefered luxury brand. They are already incorporating into their lyrics.

I am sorry to do this to you but....in case it's not been posted here before......

Sorry this is one of 3 or 4 songs where I've encountered the name...this has it in the bloody title!!!!!! :guns:

Yeah, it's an interesting social dynamic. The recent Breitling convert is a very different person than the ones that found the brand through history, Navitimers, aviation, etc and it does bring a new aspect to the brand - the Aeromarine and Professional ranges would never have existed if the 'traditional' enthusiast was all that Breitling attracted. The increasing popularity (in person and on television) of the Red Bull Air Races is definitely bringing yet more people to the brand, and I agree that's a great thing.

At the same time I feel slightly disappointed to see the blinged out Bentleys on the wrist of a singer I've never hear of (I know, I'm old fashioned) or when I see 806s bought and sold as commodities by people who have no appreciation for the wathc but just want to turn a quick profit.

I guess I'm becoming one of those people that I always thought of as an old fogey when I was young!

Good grief. That youtube clip ably demonstrates to me that there really IS such a thing as too much publicity.

All you have to do is take that rapper / footballer / chav (delete as appropriate) lifestyle, add a little too much money and too little taste or class, and before you know it you arrive as this -

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=HwGix9RAe ... re=related

Can you imagine this happening to Patek? I think not. It's a really shame in my book that Breitling has started to appeal to that particular audience. And yeah, I am a snob!
