After getting my first Breitling, I'm realizing that much fewer people know what a Breitling is than I might have guessed. I always thought that Breitling was one of the most known brands (short of Rolex). I'd say only 10% of the people who ask about my watch have any real reaction to the word "Breitling", most say they've never heard of it.

I didn't buy this watch to name drop, and actually am pleasantly surprised that the brand is a bit more "underground" in the realm of the mass populous. It just was not expected...

Love it when people don't know what Breitling is.

my sister in law saw mine & asked what it was, when I said Breitling, she said "is that like a Longines". Poor thing she is...To me it makes a B'ling more exclusive being a lesser known watch. Plus its unlikely to see many identical watches around. Although I have seen one already.

My friends normally recognize a Breitling, but I agree that it feels good that some of those people who think that Rolex is the only luxury watch fails to recognize a Breitling. :)

It makes no difference to me whether people know what a Breitling is or not to be honest. In terms of recognition, I find people's brand awareness is proportional to how close they are to an AD. There are a couple of Breitling AD's in towns near me, so I tend to come across people that at least know what a Breilting is...... whereas if I mention IWC or Zenith or even Panerai, I am generally greeted with blank faces. (Obviously I am talking about generally "non-watch people" here!)

You mean the $9.99 fake on ebay with the authentic misspelled brand name? ;)

Sorry, just couldn't resist.

Thanks for that Aleister! :guns:

That and sometimes typing "teh" instead of "the" are my two primary typos! The joys of speed-typing!

Some people notice mine, and usually when they do its pretty nice, because it shows you that they know what theyre talking about. "Is that a Rolex?" to a Rolex owner is probably a bit ubiquitous, to say the least.

Most people who notice my watch and ask what it is, ask how it compares to a Rolex :?

If I don't feel like getting into a lengthy discussion I typically say it's about the same as a Rolex but made for a younger man. It may not be entirely accurate but non-watch folk typically get what I mean :?

While looking for a steel band for my Navitimer ( i bought it with a leather one) my wife went to a locally reputable jewelry store and asked about the bands. The OWNER questioned her and said "Oh you mean BRITling....thats those home party watches. Umm no we dont have those"
She left without explaining. Luckily we have found a more informed jeweler now. I LOVE my Navitimer!!
