Ok, i am new to this forum and maybe not in a position to ask this type of questions to (senior) members. But what i do like the most on forums are the several different minded people who love mostly a particulair thing, like here the Breitling.

To see what people think about their love i always ask some questions to see if we are all different minded even when we love the same thing.

Feel free to answer them, if not, feel free to discuss. If admin or mods are not happy with this topic, also feel free to delete it

Personal:

1. How old are you and where are you from?
2. From where comes your love for exclusive things?
3. Are you rich compared to the most?
4. What is your job?
5. Are you married?
6. Do you have kids?

Related:

7. How many Breitlings do you own and which models?
8. Did you payed the retailed price for them?
9. Do you prefer vintage or new?
10. Leather or metal (sorry i don't know the right word for it)
11. Quartz or Automatic?
12. Why Breitling? Why not for instance a Rolex?
13. Do you service them all, or do you sell it when it comes to a service?

Funny questions:

14. Is your wife or man calling you nuts when to buy one?
15. Do you tell others who are screaming that yours is fake (cause they don't know better) that it is a fake?
16. If yes, when is it the time to tell them you faked them?
17. Do you buy fakes, just because you can't buy (anymore) that real piece of art?
18. Do you have a special Breitling that you want to give your son later when its time for it?
19. Breitling all the way or also some other brands?
20. Do you think this poll is fun for the forum?

Last but not least:

21. Which model is your favorite?

The crew part of making this topic is ofcourse answering the questions myself. But here i go.

1. 33 years old and i am from Holland.
2. I don't know. Not that i love exclusive things, but sometimes i get something in my head and it won't go away before i have it :(
3. No, i am not rich compared to other, but i do not have the right to complain, simple there are a lot more people who has to deal with alot less money then me.
4. I work at the university in Holland as an ICT Dispatcher. I give the work to others.
5. With a lovely wife which is 29 years old.
6. yes, 2 sons. One is 4 and one is almost 2 weeks now.

7. One Crosswind. And also one fake "Crosswind lookalike". I never wear the fake one though, but always kept it.
8. For my Crosswind: No. For the fake: Yes :)
9. I prefer vintage!!! I like exclusive things in vintage allthough my Crosswind comes from 1997 (which is in excellent condition) is not really a vintage. But i always liked this model from the start.
10. Metal (sorry, still don't know the right word for it).
11. Automatic FTW!!
12. Personally i don't see Rolex as exclusive. What i like to Breitling is that it has a robust look. Rolex has more the "look at my money" look.
13. I am planning to...
14. Yes haha. But it don't take much to convince her :)
15. Yes certainly. People who are shouting that it is fake, but don't know the reason why it is fake. Those are the one i tell it is a fake.
16. The time is there when someone else tells him it is real :)
17. Yes, with the first one. In that time i really didn't have the money to spend for just a watch which costs 5000USD or more. I knew it was fake and i didn't wear it much. Only on some special events where your watch isn't important to your companions and when it looks good with your shirt or suit. I always told them that it was a fake though if someone asked.
18. Well, the Breitling is a piece of art which well serviced can hold very long. Maybe i will give (this) one to my son(s) later.
19. I never wear watches because my wrist is to thick. But i always had a crush for Breitlings because my uncle, who was treasurediver, had one. And i always played with the bezel when he came for a birthday. He always told me i would get it from him when he dies. Unfortunally he died indeed due a caraccident several years ago. but the Breitling was totally crashed with his body.
20. I think so :)
21. For me it is the Crosswind for sure. I like most of the models, but they always have something i don't like (most of the time the bracelet). Hard to tell what it is though. But the Crosswind has everything for me.

Thanks for readin. Maybe we see your answers to these questions. Do you also have an interesting question, please post it so i can add it.

Daag Yzord!
Of course you can ask these questions! Welcome to the forum, and I am sure you will have a great time on here.
I lived in Holland, in Amsterdam, some time ago. I worked at Schiphol Airport for Finnair. It was one of the best times of my life, the time I spent in Holland. I will always have a great fondness for the Dutch people.
Anyway, I have some time, so here goes to the answers to your questions:
1. I am 59 years old, and I was born here in Vancouver, BC, Canada
2. I appreciate art, and a lot of exclusive things like a Breitling watch are, for me, a form of art. Not only the mechanical and technological aspects of the watch, but the aesthetics as well.
3. I'm certainly not rich, although I could have been if I had not spent so much money during my lifetime. As a matter of fact, I could probably have retired long ago if I had save. But I enjoyed, and that is the main thing. I want for nothing, and am very content.
4. I work in the Bindery/Finising department of a Print Shop. We bind books, do cutting, stapling, folding and everything else to finish off a printed item before it goes to the customer.
5. Not married
6. No kids
7. 2 Breitlings: Avenger Skyland Blacksteel, SuperOcean Steelfish
8. Retail
9. Prefer new, but I have not come across a vinatage that I like well enough or can afford.
10. No preference. My first Breitling was a quartz, and I hope to get another sometime. Currently, both mine are automatics
11. I guess you mean the strap or bracelet. I prefer a metal bracelet over a leather or rubber strap. I do have an Ocean Racer strap for my Steelfish, as well as the stainless steel bracelet. Of course the Blacksteel comes with a Diver Pro rubber strap
12. I prefer the looks of the Breitling over Rolex, and am unable to afford the model of Rolex I would prefer. To me the Rolex doesn't look as good as the Breitling anyway
13. My last SuperOcean I had for 10 years before I had it serviced. It should really be after 5 years. After the service, I traded it for the Blacksteel, otherwise I would have kept it
14. I don't have a wife or male partner, but my friends and family cannot relate to my spending so much money on watches. Most of them will spend a maximum of a couple hundred dollars on a watch
15. Nobody has ever called my watches a fake
16. I guess if they want to think it's fake, it really doesn't matter to me
17. I don't buy fakes. Either the real thing, or not at all.
18. If I had a son, probably I would start by buying him a Colt Quartz II
19. I have a Raymond Weil Don Giovanni and a Tissot Le Locle. I plan to sell both of them, as I do not wear them at all, though they are both beautiful watches
20. This poll is great for me. I like to answer questions, and to help others in the forum as much as I can. It is very seldom that most of us get to talk about our watches, and often some personal things, so this is a great outlet for that. People really listen to what you have to say.
21. My favourite is the SuperOcean Steelfish. Although I look at a lot of others, and try them on, I am especially happy with the Steelfish. If I had the money, I would own a Blackbird and a Bentley 6.75 as well. The Blacksteel was my favourite for a few months, but for some reason a lot of the fondness has disappeared. It is a beautiful watch, but even if I just wear it once in a while for a day, I do not have the same feelings for it that I have for the Steelfish. I does to show that the cost of an item is not always a big part of one's fondness for it. The Blacksteel cost me almost twice what my Steelfish did.
Thanks for your posting, a please enjoy the forum.
Cheers,
Carl

Wow, that's a lot of questions, and I'm not going to take on them all, but here goes:

1) 37 from Ontario Canada - about 2 hours north of Toronto. Grew up in rural Kent, England
2) Always loved watches, couldn't always afford them, but started appreciating recent watch history (last 60 years or so and came to Breitling from there)
3) That's a hard question to answer - I have more than some, less than others. I can't complain.
4) I run my own management consulting firm, my personal engagements are focused around business critical project management / executive management. Currently working on engagements as a CIO of a public company, developing IT strategy for a charitable foundation and developing a measurement methodology of the professional services arm of a software company. I'm also a regularly published author of articles on project management topics.
5) Yes
6) Two stepsons

7) Never reveal the full list - it's just one of those things. The acquisitions that the board knows about are Cockpit, DB Cosmonaute, AS Blacksteel, Montbrillant Legende, Mark VI Complications 19, Le Mans. Wife has Cockpit Lady and SOH38.
8) Never paid retail for any of them
9) Impossible to answer, I have watches from the 40s to the 2000s and like them all
10) Depends on the watch, have calf, croc, steel and TT, also change them on some watches
11) Automatic - or at least mechanical, some of my favourites are manual wind
12) Not exclusively Breitling, but the brand appeals to me in terms of style, quality and value. Rolex doesn't appeal to me, but if they brought out a piece that I liked, I'd buy one.
13) Never sell a piece that I buy, unless I have only specifically acquired it to sell.

14) No, doesn't have the same fascination as me, but she understands and respects my appreciation of them.
15) I rarely get it - people who know me know my knowledge on the subject, and besides, I don't care what others think.
16) N/A
17) I will never knowingly buy a fake
18) My stepsons will get whatever pieces they like
19) Not exclusively Breitling, but likely to continue to be a large part of the collection
20) It's entertaining and if people want to contribute it's enlightening, but it's also a bit long!

21) Favourite model - well, it would have to be a vintage QP. Of the pieces I own - currently would have to be the Le Mans as it's the newest acquisition (although it isn't here yet).

Wealth envy :)
3. Are you rich compared to the most?
Not even close, but compared to my peers I manage my funds better.
4. What is your job?
CableTV technician, Bailbondsman, Real estate investor
5. Are you married?
Yes, 17 years now
6. Do you have kids?
2
Related:

7. How many Breitlings do you own and which models?
4 Breitlings. Chronomat Evolution, Steelfish (black dial), Steelfish (silver dial), Starliner two tone
8. Did you payed the retailed price for them?
NEVER
9. Do you prefer vintage or new?
Right now new, but there are some vintage pieces that are appealing
10. Leather or metal (sorry i don't know the right word for it)
Both, but I prefer a bracelet
11. Quartz or Automatic?
Automatic, except for the wifes current and future watches, I do not ever plan on owning a quartz.
12. Why Breitling? Why not for instance a Rolex?
The stylings and size of Breitlings are more appealing but I like all brands of luxury wathces including Rolex. I just dont happen to own a Rolex YET.

I plan on servicing my watches when I fell they need it (start loosing time, ect) I do not plan on selling my collection, just adding to it.

No, she knows that watches are my passion and that I will not buy one until I have saved the money and never finance a watch.
15. Do you tell others who are screaming that yours is fake (cause they don't know better) that it is a fake?
Never and I will defend the authenticity to anyone who challenges me on it. I would concider it an insult and anyone who wears a fake is a fake themselves.

NA
