I was searching around the internet trying to find information about a watch when I stumbled across this website. I am hoping you guys can help me identify this watch, when it was made, etc. Thanks in advance!

Wow, that's different.

I am completely unqualified to tell you if it's right - Craig (chronodeco), may well be able to comment on this era, because if it is correct, it's extremely old. At this age it's impossible to date reliably based on the serial, but it would likely be early 30s.

There are a number of things that I'm wary of - the font on the dial and the movement being obvious ones, but also the model number. I don't have enough reference material of this era to say whether it is right or wrong, but with a (partially) refinished dial the Breitling could have been added, and the movement appears to be in very good condition for a nearly 80 year old watch - again it would have been easy to add a Breitling engraved wheel.

I'm suspicious of it, but cannot say with any confidence one way or another because I know so little of this vintage.

I spoke to Craig (chronodeco) about the piece today as well, and he's going to see if he can find anything similar in his material. He doesn't share my concerns on the movement, but neither of us recognise it immediately.

I wish the guy who runs the Israeli site would have all his captions in English as well as Hebrew!

The font on this example looks more correct.

Internet translation is "Square Breitling in pink gold model 169 from year 1946. Extensible mechanism of 17 stones. Size of clock 26 by 26."

Well it validates the model number.

The script is certainly more usual, but this example is 15 years later, so it's entirely possible that the other one is correct for that period.

The Israeli site is a very good reference, but yes - my hebrew could be better!

You guys are awesome. I would have never in a million years found that very informative website. So what it really looks like is the watch shown but with a very poorly refinished dial?

If that is the case, is there someplace that I can send this watch to actually have it refinished correctly? I am sure that the movement could use a good cleaning/go over as well while it is in.

Again, thanks to everyone for the help. I do sincerely appreciate it.

Get in touch with Craig (chronodeco), he may be able to help.

I think all three watches posted are 90% original with the dials being the only question mark. Imo I would think the original poster has the most correct dial indicated by the wear pattern but it too might just be an earlier redo.

Just found this one on ebay which I think is 100% correct and it's close enough to the same model number and serial number to be a good reference point for the dial correctness.

Agreed, that looks completely original.
