Excuse me if it is a sticky somewhere but -

Is there a site donation at all? I know a few forums have a voluntary donation section that you can give to the site owner to cover costs. I would gladly give to this site.

There isn't.

I'm not going to speak for admin - he doesn't need me for that, but I think his belief is that the internet (and by extension this site) should be free for all. Obviously there are some ads on the site and I would suggest that we can support by clicking through some of those when there is something of interest, but this is largely a labour of love for admin.

Of course you could always write a cheque made payable to "Case And Strap Helplines", although I.... <ahem> I mean "they" prefer you to use just the initials CASH. Please send it to Driver8, Taxationville, Rip-Off-Britain.

In all seriousness, that's a most generous offer to the site but as Roff said, Admin runs this as a labour of love. And more kudos to him for that.

Archie42 would also like to make a donation......

The TRF calls it a pledge.

Just a small US$10- donation sounds liek a really good idea... no pressure to give or not.

Kind regards,

Accountant Archie

Yeah, he should put on a PayPal donate-button.

Admin and I have exchanged a few e-mails on similar topics, but as I said, I don't wnt to speak for him - he'll check in soon enough and let us know how he feels, but I do have a hypothetical question......

Rather than just have a donate capability, if we were to introduce a fee structure for advertising, how would that go down with you guys? For example, I'm a business owner so if I wanted to advertise my business in my signature I would pay $x per year for the privilege. Obviously I an also buy an ad at the top of the page alongside Prestige Time, Swiss Watch Store, etc

That way there is at least a degree of 'getting something' for the fee as opposed to a pure donaion.

Roff

I know this is weird but some of us do not want anything back mate. We get our monies worth by the FREE information and advice this site supplies us with. Maybe members who donate to the site can have a llittle caption on their avatar or maybe a different colour name (simple things please simple minds and all  )

Martin

Hey guys, thanks for the support! Like Roff said, I am a firm believer that the net should be free for non-commercial interests, which it why I generally tend to not like to charge fees unless they are advertisers who are also trying to make money. Kind of like a software that has non-commercial free licenses :)

I have sold a couple ads recently that are great because now I can upgrade some of the software I use to maintain the site as well as cover my costs. I am also considering purchasing a new software for the forum rather than using phpBB3 when I upgrade, but I'm not sure yet. phpBB3 is quite good and I am starting to get the hang of it.

However, since it has been requested, I will stick a donate button in the new FAQ section at the bottom here: http://www.breitlingsource.com/articles_faq.shtml#8. Also, I am going to figure out how to make it so contributing members get a special Rank under their names that indicates that they are Contributing Members.

Again, I want to thank you guys for the support you've shown me and the moderators! Thanks Driver8 and Roff for doing such a great job helping me with moderation of the forum. It has been really helpful especially during my exams and now giving me some time to work on the site a bit!
