I was wondering why there are so many of these for sale. Roffensian replied to me on a for sale thread and I though to be fair to the seller I would redirect my questions to this area of the web site. The response was I guess predictable, Profit. I have never looked at collecting as a for profit venture. Anyhow, I would like to know if the finish on the Black steel is durable. Does it scrach easly? Can you clean it up?

Its durable, and does not scratch easily. Think of it more as colored steel than an applied coating. That said, it can be scratched, and if its deep enough, the metal underneath will show through. There is no way to repair it.

I do like the look, not a watch that I would pursue. Thanks for the info.

I just picked one up last week and so far I am really enjoying itt (the SKYLAND version) ! Its become my daily wear now.... Heck, I even wear it in bed ! If I ever scratch it, I will simply send it to Breitling Service.

I strongly believe that watches are meant to be worn and enjoyed....Take it to the limit.....

Checked it out nice watch! I too like to wear my collection.

....I must admit, I am a bit disappointing that my Black Steel did not come with the OR bracelet. I am actually thinking of switching rubber bands; I might put the OR on the Blacksteel and the DP on the Seawolf.... Why not?
Its something to keep me busy.

just like a new watch, I have a box of bands that I switch.

I know that my "old" Seawolf with the Ti band was kinda boring.....until I popped in the OR rubber band.... The Seawolf is back in business....I love it!

I completely agree with you that watches are made to be worn and enjoyed......, but just a comment on your statement about sending it back to Breitling if you scratch it. Even Breitling will not be able to repair a scratch in the DLC. All they could do is re-case it entirely (assuming they hold a stock of DLC cases), or they could re-coat it completely (assuming they'd be prepared to do that). Re-coating would involve completely stripping the existing coating and then re-applying the DLC from scratch. If they would be prepared to do it, you can rest assured it'll be a costly business.

But from what you say about your wearing habits, it sounds like a little wear and tear will just add to the patina of it for you!

Carl inquired on the cost of a replacement bezel for his which had got dinged, can't remember exactly what it was - $250 is in my head, but that may be low.

I suspect that will be Breitling's approach to all of these - replace the damaged part as the only option.

I believe the quote Carl got was like $600 and he contemplated fixing it and selling it like new or just keeping it.

You're probably right - that makes more sense.

As the OR deployant clasp isn't coated, there will be a mismatch. Some people would never want this, others might think it adds some character.

I have not worn my Blacksteel AS many times but do feel that the material is much more resistant than resular SS, I don't think it will get dinged or scratched easily at all.
