I "might" :) have bought a new watch from a fella in the UK and he went to sent it this morning. He said that Royal Air Mail wont insure over 500 GBP and that FedEx and DHL wouldnt insure it for the 2000 GBP of actual value (expecially after he said it was a watch). What gives? How do you guys in the UK ship your watches to the states? I told him to try UPS, I have shipped internationally with them without a problem.

Im not doubting him, I just watn to help point him in the right direction and I want my new watch and want the protection of insurance!

Thanks

Scott

Not sure what the deal is with the courier companies - I've not had problems from the UK before, but he is correct about Royal Mail's GBP 500 limit.

Some of the experts who didn't flee the country can probably give you more advice on couriers in the UK.

I tried to insure a package and the most USPS will do is 200.00. UPS and FedEx won't do it at all. You can send things first class with a signature required, pretty cheap but it has to be under 4 lbs.

So if I was to wanted to send a $3500 watch from the UK to the USA and wanted some type of protection against loss, damage or fraud.. what are my options???

Would the DHL or Royal Mail with signature required be enough to set your mind at ease?

I didnt think it was going to be a big deal.

The shipper (or you) needs to take out 3rd party insurance which covers watches. Most couriers specifically exclude watches from the list of insured goods due to the high risk their loyal staff stealing them!

Transit2Insure is the most commonly recommended company on TZ-UK. Mainly for companies but I believe they will do individual packages.

Hope this helps.

Yep, in good old 1950's style, the postal service in this fair and backward land that is the UK only covers international parcels up to £500.

We get a slightly better deal on internal mail - we can get cover up to £2500........., but even with that you can imagine my slight concern when I sent my Le Mans in for a service!

Apparently Royal Mail still pay their staff in shillings and farthings too.

Thanks for the replies. My new toy is being sent Royal Air with the transit2insure extra insurance on it. With any luck I'll get it by Monday and you'll see the pictures sometime later that night.
