Ever since I saw "Blood Diamond" with Leonardo DiCaprio, I fell in love with the watch his character wears throughout the movie. After some digging around, I found out that it's a Breitling Aeromarine Chrono Avenger M1 with leather band.

This was a few years back, and since then I've saved up enough money to commit. To get up to date on the new Breitlings, I did more research, and found out that there's now the Breitling Aeromarine Skyland Chrono Avenger.

Being new to the world of Breitling, I can't really tell the two apart, except a couple of obvious differences (Skyland's numbers have a more military look, and it has stainless steel case instead of M1's titanium case).

I would love to hear your thoughts on whether a titanium case is better, or if that's just an older watch/method of production. Also, are there other differences between the M1 and the Skyland that would make me want to choose one over the other?

Thanks in advance for helping out a newbie!

The M1 is quartz, the Skyland is Automatic.

That's the most obvious difference, and would be the deciding factor for many on here. The M1 is also being discontinued, so if you decide on that don't wait too long because they will become harder to get from ADs.

In terms of titanium vs. steel - it really comes down to personal choice. Titanium is a much lighter metal giving the watch a less substantial feel - that may be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective. It is of course also a different finish than the polished steel skyland.

M1 is a very cool watch and very "toolish".

SQ also keep near perfect time. Skyland has a beautiful dial and and a little more bling.

Leo wore ordinary CA, not an M1.

CiCaprio wore the Chrono Avenger. The successor of which is the Avenger Skyland - introduced 2007, if I am not mistaken.
Also check out the Super Avenger - the BIG BROTHERof the Avenger Skyland.

I was in the same boat. I bought an M1 and had it for a week. There were a few things that I did not like about the watch.

1. I had a black dial, but it looked blue depending on the light.

2. The watch was just too light for my taste. I want to know that I have a chunk of steal attached to my wrist.

3. I couldn't get over the fact that I paid so much for a Super Quartz. I have a Colt that is a Super Quartz and I love it, but it was time for me to get an automatic.

So after a week I sent the watch back and ordered the Skyland. The dial looks black all the time. I love the weight of the watch. I wear it on an Ocean Racer Strap and love the combo. I never thought I would like owning an automatic, but I really love feeling it move on my wrist.

So bottom line try them both own and you will know which one to go with.

Good Luck.

I think it's been plenty bad. If you do not think so, perhaps the issue is on your end?
