I'm coming to the conclusion that this site is here purely to make me eat humble pie now and then! First there was my radical change of heart about the Super Avenger about a year ago : and now I have something new to confess to....

On a number of posts in the Replica Forum concerning watches that people are selling on eBay with all manner of tales why they don’t have any paperwork, I've often said the words, "No-one loses the paperwork for their several thousand pound watch". Well guess what? I appear to have lost all the paperwork for my Steelfish!!!!!

Basically, I've decided that I don't need a beater/knockaround watch (i.e. my Steelfish) as I'm as careful with that as I am with my others! Therefore as it's kind of the odd one out in my collection (brushed, non-chronograph, "only" 44mm across, "only" 22mm lugs, etc) I think I might sell it to help fund something else. So, off I go to dig out the box and papers, but after hunting high and low, all I could find was the box!! I honestly can't believe it.

I frantically checked the rest and all the others are fully intact – box and papers (phew!) - but the Steelfish papers are NOWHERE! I don't know where they could've gone as I never usually separate the papers from the box.... I’m perplexed!

The upshot of this is, until I find them (or should that be "IF I find them"), I'm not sure if I can put it up for sale, as I'll probably only get about £500 or £600 for it as a paperless 'Fish!

I'm really not having a lot of luck with my watch sales this year.......

You may jest gentlemen, but if I can't find these papers I may well be forced to offer it at that kind of price! (Probably nearer the £600 mark, but even so..........)

That is a very good point, bnewbie! I'm pretty sure that was when I last saw them! I dug them out when I went to the AD, but I must've put them somewhere (other than put them back on the box  ) when I came home after being told it'd have to go back to Breitling for the regulation. Obviously I didn't need the papers with me when the Rolex place sorted it out.......

Hmmmmm, so they MUST be in the house somewhere.

Most probably, and you better find them if you want to get a decent price for your SF.

Driver,

I just can't believe you're willing to part with such an
important part of your army of timepieces! The Fish has stood
by you through thick and thin, has never complained when
he was abused; has worn his scratches and abrasions with
quiet dignity. He has been at your side like a loyal dog,
always ready to lay down his life (well, his movement) for you
and yours.

And now you're ready to cast him aside -- at such a paltry price --
for what? Something new and shiny? Driver, don't you realize that
those missing papers are a sign from -- the watch gods? -- a portent
that you must not sell the Fish. Who knows what evil
may befall you if he is not there, in all his solidity, to protect
you. I beg you, my friend, keep him, do not let him go, keep him...
please! :!:

Steve

@ Steve - You may be right about the watch gods telling me not to sell..... But I feel my collection's "shiny-quotient" is lacking by a 1/6th. Oh and those CM49 and Legendes don't buy themselves, unfortunately! :? As I say, I bought the 'Fish as a knockaround watch, and then proceeded to do everything to NOT let it get knocked around! Kind of spoils it's raison d'être a little. I see a CM49, or a Legende,........ or perhaps even a white dial/baton SA..... or maybe even a SOHC filling the void.

@Taffytoon - there are already a couple of pics for you and bnewbie in the gallery on that link in my signature!

Don't feel too bad D8! I lost the papers to 4 of my Breitling watches sometime in the last year.. I THOUGHT I kept them safe but It definately does not appear that way. I have the boxes, but the papers are not in them. I have since sold 2 of those Breitlings but still am missing papers for 2 of them. I think it may have happened during my move, and they might be somewhere in the house, but the house is big, and I have a lot of boxes that have been relegated to storage in the basement, that would be insane to go through... so alas, I will not worry about it for now.

Funny thing is, I have papers for a watch I do not own, nor have ever owned as well.

I'm obviously in good company, so I feel a little less bad about it now! :)

I'm going to have a really good look for them this weekend, because I do fancy selling it...... but if they don't show I may have to just sell it anyway. :?
