Oh great, another wish book! :D

I am going to get at least one Panerai and so when the catalog arrived today I thought of a few questions.

1) Am I reading the catalog right when it says that the Luminor Marina is a 8 day manual movement?

2) Is the brushed finish only available in Titanium?

3) Any of you manual wind owners wish you would have bought the auto?

I am liking the looks of either the Pam 111 or the 112. (of course the black ceramic 1950 8 day chrono wouldnt be too bad either!)

Don't know how many Pam owners we have on here.

Try our sister site http://www.paneraisource.com/ or Paneristi http://www.paneristi.com/

Don't know anything about Panerai so can't answer those, though as Shary says Admin has Paneraisource (that Penristi folk are well meaning but can be a little 'exclusive').

As a multi manual wind owner I can say though that it doesn't bother me in the slightest - I see it as a way to interact with my watches on a daily basis. That said, with my manuals there wasn't an auto / manual choice to be made - if I wanted it then it had to be manual.

I purchased a 111 about a month ago and have not been able to stop staring at it since! The manual wind has a 54 hour power reserve. I actually look forward to the few minutes that I spend in the morning winding the watch... Really gives me an opportunity to admire the aesthetic details, the feel of the watch, etc.

Well the reason I asked here was (no offence admin) the 71 members over there against the 2100 here. I would suspect that a lot of the 71 members on paneraisource are from here originally from and still frequent this sight. Just thought I stood a greater chance of getting more Panerai owners to view my questions and hopefully to answer them. That and I really didnt want to sign up for the sister site since I dont even own that brand yet! Also, a PAM is on the top of the list right now but will be bumped if the AD gets the SA BS in! :)

Why are you not considering any of the Radiomir models. I would like to have Base models from both the Luminor and Radiomir lines someday. I wish Breitling would offer more display backs, like the Panerai models you are considering. Good luck with your decision.

I dont like the crown on that model and I really like the unique crown guard of the luminor and such. Just like the rider tabs on a Breitling, the crown guard of the Panerai's is identifiable.

Bronco...

the 111 and 112 are great but keep in mind... they need to be wound every other day. I don't mind winding... it's fun. But if I was in your shoes looking at my first and only PAM... I would go all out... 8 day power reserve with PR indicator, domed crystal (can you say BEAUTIFUL?), 1950 case (gorgeous), date display, in-house movement  are you reading my mind yet? I am in love with my 233. Of course, the price tag is not for the faint of heart. But this watch is worth every penny. My holy grail.

I own 3 panerais and two of the them are manual. I prefer an automatic watch in general however the manual isn't a big deal. My favorite is the Luminor GMT (auto).

One thing I will say, I love the way Panerai watches look on the wrist. I even bought my wife a 40mm PAM 88.

Heard the new for 08 / 09 are almost all manual wind with all in house movements.

Hope that helps - lots of paneraiti sites out there - some very cool custom straps. I own a strap made from a crica 1920 baseball glove - it is my absolute favorite thing to wear with any of the panerai I own and probably one of the reasons I keep buying em - love being able to switch up the strap.

The brushed finished is also available in steel. Check out the 164. It is the brushed version of 104 on a brown croc. That's the PAM to get, imo. Its auto with date, chronometer cert'd. To each their own, of course.

To answer your auto vs manual question...well, how many times a week are you planning on wearing this? Are you planning on getting a base model or one with a date? If you are wearing it every day and have a date, it makes sense to get an auto, just so that you dont have to worry about it. If its going to be an occasional watch, get the manual.

And of course, hit me up when you are ready to make the move :)

I might hit you up as well as I too have been quietly doing my research. I picked up a manual from the bay a couple of days ago ;)
