Hi 'Ling Meisters

I'm new here, so please be gentle with me. Since i was a 16 year old I've lusted after a Navitimer and now, at the ripe old age of 61, I'm about to purchase a Navitimer World, silver dial with a tan croc strap PLUS a Skyland (black or grey dial, haven't yet decided) for everyday use, as I'm a Civil Engineer specializing in flooding and drainage, so I need a bit of ruggedness in my timepiece, as well as stunning looks. The Navitimer will be for special wear, of course.
A small inheritance has enabled me to do this and i'm just awaiting probate before i seal the deal with my AD, where I've negotiated a 20% reduction. Is that good ??? I'm hopeful both pieces will become family heirlooms as my two eldest sons are both 'Ling lusters like their old dad.
Hope i'm not boring you out there but i just had to tell someone who understands. Any views, tips, comments, advice very welcome and thanks so much for a great site......you've helped my decision making, for sure.[/u]

Welcome to the forum Colonel! Your choice of Breitling's will certainly be able to be enjoyed for generations to come. The discount you have listed is acceptable but you might have better luck if you check out the "group buy" thread in this forum. Here is a picture of my Skyland. This is my everyday watch and I absolutely love it. Good luck and make sure to post some pictures when you get your new Breitling's.

At last, I think I've found a spiritual brother amidst all of these
"sprouts" on the forum (nice chaps, though; they do their best ) I, too,
was a man of "a certain age (58 )" when I bought my first Ling (I'm now
almost 61). I wasn't lucky enough to get an inheritance to finance
my first Breitling, so I had to sell my Rolex Explorer II (yes, I still
miss it ) but I don't regret it.

You're going to love your watches, believe me. They have a presence
on your wrist that most other brands lack. I have a Skyland, too,
and I never tire of admiring it, much less wearing it. The nice thing
about Breitlings is that they're perfectly at home on any wrist,
young or old. So wear them, enjoy them, and stay in touch with us,
okay?

I think those are great choices, and I love the story around them.

In terms of whether 20% is a good deal, that depends where you are. In the UK, it's amazing, in North America, it's not so good (and people here can help you do better) - jnelson3097 has a very friendly AD if you are in the US (or Europe but want better pricing), and I can help you out in Canada.

First off Welcome.

The Navi World and the word Ruggedness is somewhat of an oxymoron. You might be better off looking into the Aeromarine or Professional models if ruggedness is truly important.

20% isn't bad but it is no means good either. Look around the forums for a bit and you will see what I mean

I am most certainly looking forward to joining you in ownership very soon and also speaking further on these truly desirable timepieces. I shall post some images when the little beauties are MINE. The Navi is in stock and the AD needs to get hold of the croc strap, the Skyland black dial will be a week or so, then I can choose grey or black.
By the way, I'm in UK, so I guess 20% is good then?? I'll edit my profile with a bit more info when I work out how.

Congrats!! You certainly deserve it; your discipline for so many years is admirable. Sound like a responsible person that had other more important commitments throughout the years, eg: 2 sons. Great choices by the way, watches and priorities.

Welcome aboard indeed, and a great story for an introduction.

You've certainly been patient waiting over 40 years to buy your first Breitling, and I take my hat off to that. (Patience is not something that's seen in abundance when it comes to buying watches around these parts.............. or maybe that's just me talking! )

Both those watches are great pieces, and yes as a fellow UK dweller, I can say with absolute certainty that a 20% discount is SUPERB!

Welcome Colonel Ling, Your never too old for a Breitling....I beat you by 10 years and still lust after a new watch every so often. If time marches on, best to see it pass in style!....Anyway you need a good waterproof watch in the lakes, especially last month in Borrowdale

Maybe we should form a 60's or almost-60's club! I just turned 59 last month, and started my Breitling experience about 15 years ago, with a Colt quartz in 1992. It cost about $565. (Canadian Dollars) at the time, but proved to be a good investment. It had a rubber strap. In my search for a metal bracelet in 1997, I was offered $800. for it, in trade for a new SuperOcean with stainless steel bracelet which, at the time, was about $1900. That's how I was able to afford my second Breitling. This year, I got a Steelfish, then I traded the SuperOcean for a Limited Edition Avenger Skyland Blacksteel which, although a wonderful watch, is not getting enough wear. I love it, but the Steelfish is my favourite.
I remember when I was a lot younger, the thrill of getting a new car. Now I don't drive at all, by personal choice. However, that thrill is now taken over by getting a new Breitling! I am sure you will experience the same thrill. I also feel, as you will, being very fortunate at having discovered this website. It would be a very lonely Breitling existence for me if it were not for the wonderful people on these forums.
