Hello All,
I am new to the Breitling fold and I have a few questions....

I have a Navi 2 - which I believe was made from 1992?to2002
It has the eyes at 6, 9, 12 and a date at 3.

My questions:-
1) My navi 2 has a quick set date..... does the new model also have a quickset date?
2) Does the newer navi also have a 7750 movement?
3) Why did Brietling changed the 6,9,12 arrangement to the 3, 6, 9 arranagement?
4) How do used ling prices compare for nav 2 and the later model navis?
5) I love the 6,9,12 arrangement.... DO SOME COLLECTORS prefer the navi 2?

Mate,

I can’t answer all these questions, but as the owner of a Bentley GT, I really dig the 6,9,12 sub dial layout.

The 3,6,9 layout (known as the tricompax configuration) is probably more traditional in chronos – like Rolex Daytonas & Omega Speedmasters – but the 6,912 layout has a key advantage: the 12 o’clock register ticks over to count the minutes just as the running second hand crosses 12 o’clock, so the users eyes are focused on the money shot area of the dial.

The tricompax is often said to be more symmetrical, and as a real fan of the old Rolex 6265, I can appreciate that argument. But, given that watches are actually asymmetrical due to the crown & push-pieces, the 6,9,12 layout can also be said to have a cool symmetry. Regardless of the layout, both Navi types basically use the same 7750 movement. I’m sure some collectors do prefer the 6,9,12 configuration – I for one really like the Navi 2 with a silver dial & black sub-dials.

The current Navi uses the Breitling 23 calibre which is a modified Valjoux 7753. I am a lover of tradition when it comes to the Navitimer range, so the tricompax design is much more appealing to me, although the Breitling 13 (Valjoux 7750) based Navis are certainly not unattractive.

The Breitling 23 doesn't have a quick set date in the traditional sense, although you can advance the days by winding back and forth around midnight (although you have to go back to around 8 / 9pm).

In terms of price and collectability - I don't think that there is much difference - some people prefer one, aome the other.
