Does anyone know what style box this watch would have come in new?
I'm also not sure how to spot if any of these boxes are fake?
There are a few boxes from the late-1990s and early- to mid-2000s that would be suitable. The earlier ones are less faked, but the later ones are - although to me it is easy to tell the fakes. The inner boxes should be made from Bakelite, which is a lovely heritage material, but does suffer from breakage at the hinges, so it is important to check that the one you are buying is still sound. It also means you should be delicate when opening and closing the lid. The outer boxes are made of card in a base of yellow. Here are examples of the two most suitable:

Prices of boxes have been rising, so you'd expect to pay a few hundred dollars for a good genuine example. You might also be able to put together a set of papers and hang tag if you like, but of course you will not be able to get the original warranty booklet.
I have experience with boxes from this era, so would be willing to help out with identification of correct boxes and sets if you would like to send me links (via direct message) to ones you have found.
