Firstly, hi there. I'm new to site/forum but have been reading it for a few months now whilst investigating my first purchase.

Great site.

Now to the order of business. Over the past months I've been umming and arring over which ling to get.

Initially I was drawn by the Avenger Seawolf, but after seeing it in the flesh, was not too keen on the Titanium finish.

The obvious replacement was therefore the SuperOcean with black dial(not the brand new one with the horrible face - I should point out :) ). After trying it on in 2 different AD's I'd all but settled on it and was just going to start the haggle.

Question: How much should I be able to get knocked off the £1750?
Best I've got so far is down to 1550 with a free extra link (big wrists). but hey this is 'rip off Britain' so I know I'm going to be paying more than if I lived in NA. :)

That all said, I'm now starting to be swayed by the SuperOcean Chrono  despite it being just outside my rather limited price range.
I'm also thinking I need to give the Steelfish a try.

I would welcome thoughts on these watches and tips on how to get the best price. I've never really haggled over price with a salesman before.

For a first purchase GBP200 off seems like a pretty good price in Good Ole Blighty - that's over 10% which isn't easy to come by from UK ADs by all accounts.

In terms of which one to get, you've read this before on here I'm sure. Try on as many as possible and buy the one that calls to you the most. It's better to save for a bit longer for the one you want than to spend close to the same money on one that you aren't so keen on and regret it for years to come.

check out the Steelfish with blue dial also. It's probably more in your price range than the Superocean Chrono, and is large but comfy.

Had the Steelfish now for about 8 mos. About a month after I got the Steelfish, I got an Avenger Skyland Blacksteel. After wearing the AS for a few months, it is back in the box, and I am wearing the Steelfish every day, even on weekends. I thought the Blacksteel would come out on occasion, but the Steelfish is comfortable, sporty, elegant and posh all at once. I wear it every day, and to work. It came with a stainless steel bracelet, and I ordered an Ocean Racer strap also. They both look great, and are both very comfortable. For little more than the SuperOcean, I think you get a better watch. The lug size (where the strap or bracelet attaches to the case) is also a bit wider, 22mm instead of 20mm. It makes it look a lot heftier.
Speaking of the new stainless Seawolf, I saw one for the first time yesterday. It is also one outstanding watch. I was not all for it from the pictures on the web, but when I saw it, all I can say is everything works, and almost as well as the Steelfish.
Have fun, the search is the biggest part of the fun, and make sure you try on all the models you are interested in.
Cheers,
Carl

I can't add anything more than Roff has said. Try before you buy, and if you can get a 10% discount in Rip-Off-Britain with no prior history with the AD, then I'd say go for it.

Thanks for the replies.

Actually just got back from the local AD, but couldn't try on a Steelfish, Chrono SO or the much vaunted Super Avenger because they were out of stock. In fact their whole display looked gutted. They'd apparently had a splurge of sales within the last 3 weeks.

Did get to try an Avenger Skyland on though which was lovely and not as large as I feared on my big boned wrist. It was also a nice suprise that the bracelet actually fitted comfortably around my wrist, unlike the standard SuperOcean.

The other watch I tried on was the Avenger Seawolf to get the feel of the 44mm, although the dealer pointed out it wouldn't look as thick on my wrist.

Anyway, they've arranged to get a Steelfish in for next week to try on so i'll have to wait till then. Although the Skyland was very tempting. :D
