The Breitling Watch Source Forums

After taking my Wings in to be fixed, I got hold of a catalogue and have been spending many hours pouring over which new one to get. I've only been without my Wings for 36 hours and I'm already suffering withdrawal symptoms

So, here's the problem. What do I get as my second Breitling? My shortlist is:

Chronomat, Super Avenger, Avenger Skyland or Chrono Superocean?

They all run the Breitling Calibre 13 movement so all should be equally reliable and accurate. I think the SA and AS are probably too big for my wrist as they are 30% bigger in diameter than the Wings. So it probably comes down to Chronomat or Chrono Superocean.

Why is the Chronomat listed at almost £1000 more than the Superocean? I'd be looking at steel case and black dial probably with steel bracelet.

How do I decide? Any suggestions or guidance will be appreciated. Also, why are Breitlings so addictive? Why do I go around extolling the virtues of mechanical movements with souls, compared to boring old Quartz! Am I normal??

They are in the different range (lines). There were talk about that it in one of the previous threads (search icon).

Small differences like screwdown crowns, little aesthetic touches (maybe?) and the much more expensive pilot bracelet. And im sure theres a little BS as well.

Its arguably the best selling model, so their reasoning seems to be working.

I wouldn't count out the SA even though you think the watch may be too big for you. Try one on, you will find that they are extremely comfortable. I love the CSO, but after wearing a SA for a time it looks like a little kids watch now. Going to have to upgrade to a Chronomat, which I think is the perfect size. The Chronomat is more money because that is their signature watch... no matter which one you choose you wont be dissapointed. Don't count out the SA though, try it on

I think the Chronomat is an extremely classy look, especially with romans, but they're all Breitlings!

The pilot bracelet alone on the chronomat is over $1000., which is about $600. more than the PRO II on the SuperOcean.
Have you thought about the chrono Cockpit? It is a bit small, though, almost the smallest Breitling at 38mm. Still, it has some stunning options for dial colours and the Roman numerals look great.

I have a chronmat evo and an SA. You definitely have to wear the SA for a bit. When i first got it, i thought it looked wierd because it was so big and i wasn't used to it. now i love it. and despite its weight, it is very comfortable. i bought the evo because the SA didnt let me close all my shirt cuffs.

The only thing to do is to try them on at an AD. There's absolutely no substitute for it.

We can all give you our opinions, but at the end of the day, that's exactly what they are - our own personal opinions....... and opinions vary wildly! You have to buy what you are happy with, because any watch like this is a big investment and treated well it could quite conceivably out-live you, so it pays to make the right choice.

Try each of them on and make sure your AD gives you enough time. Something like the SA may seem massive if you areb't used to it, but give it 5 or 10 mins and your opinion may start to change. Equally it may not, but unless you try you won't know.

based on what i'm seeing... try it on and get what you feel comfortable in. Good advice there. I was just highlighting that sometimes the bigger models take some getting used to, but they are definitely not for everyone.
