Hello ALL

I recently bought a brand new Breitling Colt GMT automatic. Its from Tourneau in New York City --its an AD --i checked before i bought.

The issue i am having is that the time seems to be stuck (hour, minute, and GMT hand are not moving at all) but the second had is moving fine. The crown is screwed in so its not a case of the crown being out in position 1 or 2. The watch is only 2-3 weeks old and it is the second time this issue has occurred.

Does anyone know why this is happening --is the watch broken? I like the watch but am now thinking that Breitling may be a poor brand and wish i had gone for a Rolex instead.

You are always free to get a Rolex. If you are having doubts, that may be your best option.

With that said, take it back to tourneau and have them take a look. If it needs repairs it will be covered under warranty. Of course it could also be a simple problem that somebody here might be able to help you with.

....here's a downside of owning a Rolex that I've noticed (and I have one as well - but it gets absolutely NO wrist time)...

I was in a business meeting a couple of months ago and 7 out of the other 10 people (no exaggeration - 7 out of 10!!!) all wore Rolexes. 5 of the 7 wore Submariners!!!

Do you want to look just like everyone else who's trying to look classy or do you want to BE classy with a watch that although a lot of people own - chances of someone wearing the same model as you have in the same place - close to zero.

Sorry to hear about your watch's problem, and I know it can be very irritating when you have an issue like this, but to say that Breitling is a poor brand as a result is a little bit of a sweeping generalisation.

Unfortunately when an item is made in reasonable numbers there will inevitably be one or two that sneak through the QC process. I absolutely guarantee that there are one or two Rolex watches out there with issues as well - NOBODY is perfect all the time. In fact, I'm convinced it would be physically impossible to name a single product by a single manufacturer that has never had a single issue with at least one unit at some point or other.

That said, I totally sympathise with your situation and irritation, and I know it's annoying when the "lightning" strikes you, but as others have said, take your watch back to Tourneau and they will fix the situation for you. Once your watch is up and running I'm sure you'll grow to love the brand as much as the rest of us do.

Hope you get it sorted OK.

thank you all. Point taken. I took the watch back, the experts opinion is that may be it was not winding up enough on my wrist --there is nothing wrong with the watch. They have asked be to give it another go and if it stops again then i should take it back.

Not sure if i agree with the assesment since the second hand was moving fine therefore i would assume it was getting power. Any way it is a nice watch so worth giving it another go.

If it happens again just ask for a new one.

Be sure to update us on the situation, as it is interesting to know. I'd never heard of a watch with ONLY the second hand working, and nothing else. Good luck with the trial.

Well, I gave the watch a trial on Tuesday, the AD ensured the watch was wound-up, this was about 10am, the watch stopped 15mins Obama's speech. --I would have kicked myself is the watch made me miss it!!

I wound the watch up again on Wednesday and this time it stopped working a 7pm. Eventually, today, the AD exchanged it for a brand new one --they too were puzzled why the second hand was working fine and in time but the other hands had stopped.

I have to say I did try the Rolex submariner GMT, all in silver --but ultimately I was drawn to the 'ling. May buy the Rolex next time i get the urge.
