Just wondering really what is the rarest Breitling out there?

How much would it cost?

What is the most expensive Breitling?

Rarest is probably impossible to answer. Some of the vintage models may be incredibly rare (i.e. there may only be one of a certain model left), but may not worth a lot of money as no-one reallys cares for it!

Of the newer models then I guess the rarest models would be one of the very limited edition pieces...... something with a run number of between 5 and 10. Additionally you can buy some horrendously diamond encrusted pieces that come from the factor like that as special orders.

In terms of the most expensive, then I'd say the Bentley Mulliner Tourbillon is currently the most expensive at about (I think) $170K RRP. ( http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... ey_47.html ) Incidentally it's also pretty rare as not many are made or sold (for obvious reasons!) and also the various customer specified options are so great that you probably wouldn't ever find 2 exactly the same.

Not that a price list can be complete but the most expensive one listed is $315000 US. You can go much higher with additional diamond-works through Breitling... I have no idea how much the pocket watches are but have been told some can go for a million plus US

Actually, every one of the pocket watches that they produce for Basel each year (they are all one offs) has sold for in excess of $1mln.

Of course if your budget doesn't quite run to that Deepskisam I can hook you up with a Navitimer Quantieme Perpetuel Rattrapante in solid white gold that was a limited edition of 10. Probably the most complicated wristwatch Breitling has ever produced, and available for the bargain basement price of $84,000

(Yeah, I know, I should stick to the sales forum - but really - anyone think this is actually going to solicit a sale!).

I would love to be able to own a quantieme perpetuel, or the Mulliner Tourbillon in my lifetime. They are both extremly beautiful, complicated watches. Can someone please explain the justification of a $150k for a tourbillon? How is it that this particular complication is so exclusive?

In short it's pretty hard to justify that kind of money, but then it's all relative. Most of us are OK with spending a couple of thousand on a watch whereas 90% of the population would think we're completely insane. I guess the same goes for very high end/expensive Tourbillon pieces.

Each Bentley Tourbillon is made to the new owner's specification in terms of dial colour, wooden ring on the case back, even the person's initials can be engraved on the movement. This means that every one is almost a limited edition of 1.

The tourbillon is a complex movement to make but as I recently found out, Lemania make a tourbillon movement that they sell to a select few companies which requires very little modification or rework, which will obviously reduce the cost of manufacture considerably. Thus basically you as a consumer are primarily paying for exclusivity, but also top class materials and workmanship.

Whether it's worth it or not depends entirely on your point of view. The only thing you can absolutely guarantee is that the materials alone are not worth that price..... but the value of a thing to someone goes beyond the actual financial worth.

Agreed.

Tourbillons are seen as the elite of watchmaking, although in terms of pure parts they aren't the most complex, and they are usually lower frequency, but much of the money is the exclusivity and the precious metals that they are usually encased in.

JLC has made a tourbillon in SS which has a street price of a little under $40,000 and that's as low as you are going to be able to go for a tourbillon (unless you go Chinese).

We're not likely to have a member on a forum sporting any mulliners... or better yet a mill plus pocket watch!

Hmmmm, I dunno actually. I'm pretty no-one actually has one, but I can of at least one member (who hasn't posted for ages) who probably could've bought one...... He shall remain nameless though!

Personally I don't even particularly like the Bentley Mulliner Tourbillon. My absolute dream watch is the Bentley Mulliner Perpetual, which is comparatively cheap compared to the Tourbillon.......... which is great because it means one day I might actually get to own my dream watch!

T on 57th here in NYC was selling a 'pre owned' Mulliner about a month back, $250K, solid rose gold with diamond bezel. The sales rep told me that it was owned by a 'prominent pro athlete that competes in Madison Square Garden'.

I'm guessing it's a member of the Knicks as I can't see hockey players wearing those types of timepieces. Far too blingy. And if it's a Knick it's probably Quentin Richardson, Eddy Curry or Stephon Marbury as they all make around 10MM US per year and therefore could theoretically afford the price without much sweat.

No idea if they sold the watch, but I can say that it was the most beautiful Breitling I've ever seen.

Really sexy watch but the price isnt right - for me. Just too much money for a watch anyhow.

Stephon Marbury actually makes 20 million a year playing for the knicks, and the coach still sat him on the bench the other night! I was at the opening night game for the Phoenix Suns basketball team last night and there was a guy sitting courtside who was wearing a diamond encrusted monster, looked like Bentley? It was hard to miss with all the lights reflecting off it like a disco ball!

Before I bought diamond studded monster I would strongly consider a Patek Philippe or maybe a A. Lange and Sohne first
