You're not alone Steve - the only gold I've invested in recently is a jar of Nescafe Gold Blend Coffee!

It seems like some Panerai owners tend to feel quite strongly about their watches from an investment standpoint.

I say buy the watch to wear, and wear it often. If times get tough and you have to sell your time piece expect to take a hit. Make sure to enjoy the watch in-between all the worrying about whether you've made a sound investment or not.

I will be putting up a like new Avenger Seawolf black dial on a pro diver band on the fourm this weekend. It would be a good entry to the Breitling brand if you are ok with Titianum. I will be asking 1500.00, it has all the boxes, papers and warranty.

I agree that if you have a good watch, you do have to keep it quite a time to appreciate the value. Case in point: I purchased a Colt in 1990 for $565.00, with 18mm rubber strap. In 1997, I wanted to get a steel bracelet for it, but there was nothing available that would fit it. I was at my local AD, so I asked what the price of the new SuperOcean Automatic was. It was, at that time, around $1800. with the steel bracelet. In order to get it, my AD said that he would give me $800. towards the new one with my Colt as trade. I figure that was a very good deal, otherwise at the time, I never would have been able to get the SuperOcean. I also think that after wearing the Colt for 7 years, I got more than my money's worth. Even the rubber strap it came with lasted for 7 years.
Cheers,
Carl
