I don't hate blacksteel and they were cool when only a few pieces were made like that. But EVERYTHING new they're putting out is black steel now.

They are responding to a market trend where they see demand. BTW, Breitling are not the only ones jumping on the bandwagon.

It wasn't that long ago when Breitling was criticized for their mirror polished finishes on every new steel watch they put out. Now that they are slowly going away from what was perceived to be blingly in your face looks, again they get blasted for going on the opposite direction. Hard to please everyone all the time.

Blacksteel has been the 'go to' limited edition for 8 1/2 years now, perhaps time to add a little more variety!

My guess is if it weren't profitable they wouldn't do it. The carbon process to harden the steel/Ti is very expensive and Breitling outsources this process to an outside vendor as they don't do this in house. What I like their DLC coatings is that they give the cases increased wear resistance that surpasses that of sapphire crystal. I'll post the link of the company in Switzerland that does this for them.

I never complained about Breitling shiny bling factor.
In actual fact, that's what drew my attention to the brand in the first place.
Nearly every release for the last 3-4 years is DLC which I don't care much about but I hope I'm still allowed to say so in a public forum.
Having said that, if that is what drives sales Breitling way, so be it. More DLC please ;-)
