Hi everyone,

Purchased a Superocean Chronograph rose gold 6 months ago. You can say it was an impulse buy because I hadn't done much research on watch movements and I had bought the watch after the first time seeing/trying it on. I had never seen the Superocean gold bezel before that day. I had just been eyeing up the avenger line up but when I saw it in person it did not speak to me. All the Chronomats were BEAUTIFUL but something was weird with the numeric font, also a two tone Chronomat b01 is around 14k in Canada, my budget was around 5k. So in the end I went with the two tone superocean cause aesthetically I was in love. All I knew that day about Breitling watches when I walked out of the AD that day was that they were solid watches that were all chronometer grade. I had heard the term in house movement dropped a couple of times but like I said did not do much research and look into the importance or not of the in house movements. Each to own though.. there is so much controversial/conflicting information that I find on the forums after buying my piece.

But to conclude my post, just wanted to see what you guys think.. I wouldn't say I regret buying my Superocean Chronograph rose gold with the Valjoux 7750 movement cause its a beautiful piece, but still think back about getting a stainless steel Chronomat B01 for just another 2k that day.

I sometimes have the same thoughts. I bought the Navitimer World (Valjoux 7754), and sometimes I wonder whether I should have got the Navi 01 with the inhouse movement instead (for about 1.5k more). There's good and there's bad... the Valjoux 7750 and derivates, although not an inhouse movement and maybe not as state-of-the-art as the B01, is a tried and proven movement. If for whatever reason you decide to stray from the authorized services, spare piarts and good technicians are easy to find. The B01 still has issues, there are quite a few posts with horror stories, so I'd say it hasn't reached maturity yet. And once you go with the inhouse movements, you're pretty much stuck with the authorized shops for every little thing.

So, tough call...
I'd say enjoy your watch, regardless of the movement it has...

Honestly, I don't think you should worry too much. I don't believe necessarily that their in house movement will perform or be more rubust over their ETA/Valjioux based movements as those are proven and tested already in so many watches/watch brands. My ETA chrono module based Crosswind Special has always performed at +3 seconds a day and I've dropped it from my car's seat (when it was sitting on my jacket that I pulled out of the car) and fell onto my asphalt driveway. Big dent on the case, but watch running still at +3 sec a day. My 7750 based Navitimer too was perfectly reliable. No one will see the movement inside. If you like the design of the watch, buy it. Don't just get a certain model cause it's an in houser. I have a Patek Nautilus that is in house, but who cares..I still prefer wearing my ETA based Crosswind.

Yeah I totally agree with what you're saying, ETA movement in breitling watches seem rock solid and keeps perfect time. Im just thinking back if it were a better move financially to add a bit more and have something more exclusive (B01). All the watch guys are always talking about in house movements.. don't know if I'll be able to buy an in house movement from breitling/rolex/omega in time soon after this purchase. Might have to buy a Seiko just to get rid of my in house movement itch. LOL

If I were you, I'd be happy it wasn't a B01 movement. There have been a lot of issues with this movement. Perhaps the bugs have been worked out, but I somehow doubt it. I was once in the boat you're in, wanting the in house movements. In the end, I don't think their in house movements are superior. IMHO, Rolex makes the best in house movements.

First time I got a Breitling I was all ready to pull the trigger on a SS Chronomat Evolution with a red dial. I got a little apprehensive with the price and decided to scale back to a Chrono SuperOcean with a blue dial. I love that watch, but I always wanted to get that Chronomat, which I eventually did do. More recently my brother got the new Chronomat B01 from his wife. I was instantly jealous, even though I had my own Chronomat. I think it's in our nature to want the net best thing in a watch, but the fact is you have a BEAUTIFUL watch. I love that gold bezel. If you love your watch, then you made the right decision. Now all you have to do is start saving for the next one.

My wife recently bought me the Navitimer 01 46mm, with the new B01 movement. It is quite a bit calmer than that wobbly beast, Valjoux 7750. I love that valjoux 7750 in my Chronomat, it feels alive. If you are wearing your watch every day then the movement doesn't matter anyways. You have a nice piece there!

Beg to disagree. I love the 7750-s and have a few watches with that (including Breitlings) but I simply love most my Chronomat 41 with the B01 inside - flawless and great daily rate. You can take it off on Friday in the afternoon (giving time to your 7750-s) and put on Monday in the morning without needing to wind it. Fantastic in every way. Best buy among manufacture caliber chronographs. Just my two cents.
