So I recently sold my Rolex Submariner LV at a profit and now my collection is one watch down, I'd like to add a navitimer. I am fairly new to Breitling but not to watches, I have been collecting for 4-5 years now with a couple rolex, omega and a few odd bits.

I am quite into the detail side of watches so I am very picky.

I would like a navitimer ref 806 but I'm definitely open to suggestions, as long a its a navitimer or cosmonaute. Throw in something else if you fancy it actually, I am interesting in anything to view but would rather stick to the navitimer.

I am unsure whether to go for vintage or new(ish) as I really like vintage watches but the perfect one seems to be very hard to find whereas more modern models that are cleaner and the same price are easier to get from an AD. I lack the Breitling knowledge to spot a fake or franken to a certain extent and my search is based entirely on the internet at present. My budget is around £3k as I haven't got any savings right now due to an american road trip coming up next month I am doing the pacific highway san fran, Yosemite, monterey, LA then across to vegas. Maybe I could pick one up en route?

So, would you suggest old or new, AD or doesn't it matter and what are my best options model wise?

Bit wary as they are both international sellers. They are both trusted 24 pro sellers though. Anyone know much about import fees etc? chromo 24 claim there are no dutys on watches from europe.

There aren't many 806's around and the quality of them aren't very good. I wanted this watch as they are appreciating a lot at present so it was an investment piece as well as something I'd wear.

these are both "Navitimer 92", unloved caliber, quite small for today's tastes at 38mm, even small for 1950s vintage Navitimers, these were 40mm.

the least "collectible" of all, these are hard to sell even for prices well below €2k, most auctions end way below that - no indication whatsoever these will ever be an "investment piece".

I like the look of it it is cleaner than some other models.

Where is the serial number found? Below the reference number on the case back?


The problem is I cannot find any good quality 806's that I trust to buy

considered more desirable to it's larger size of 42mm - might keep it's value compared to new watches, clearly not an investment piece either; these were produced for a decade and are far from rare.

I was talking about the ref 806 which apparently have recently being going up in value but I decided as I can't find one that I can see in person and trust to be 100% then I will just go for another watch that may not appreciate but is a nice looking Breitling to have.
