Breitling could adopt the solar charging technology for it's quartz models. There may be good reasons for them not to do so, maybe the power required by the super quartz movements makes this difficult but with other brands offering multi function watches that recharge themselves I doubt it. I love the B50 & B55 but the prospect of needing a charger when away from home for long periods of time deters me from considering either. The solar technology seems proven and its trouble free, apparently more so than Breitling's charging system which has had its glitches. Also, the benefit of not having the 'EOL' message every three or so years to me has some appeal. I'm pretty sure that most watch owners, including those who spend their lives in plane cockpits, would spend enough time in lit conditions to keep their watches charged up. As for GPS and Atomic time keeping..............surely this is the stuff that Breitling should consider for their professional models. I know that some may spend a lot of their time out of range of a calibration signal but the facility would have great benefits. Is there a reason why Breitling has overlooked these technologies? To me it's ironic that I set my superquartz Lings by my 10 year old Oregon Scientific RC alarm clock...............I know this would require the development of new or heavily developed movements but surely worth the investment.

It comes down to power consumption requirements. Have you seen how bright and clear the LCD displays are in the B50/B55 models? Solar changing can't keep up with it. I don't mind the Chargers, my problem is having to recharge, in addition to my cell phone, a watch on a daily basis. Hence why smart watches don't appeal to me.

The Swiss have been generally slow in adopting new Quartz technologies but I am happy to see Breitling and Omega maintaining interest in this area of horology

Expensive Quartz is a niche. Very few people are willing to pay Rolex money for a high end Quartz timepiece.

Good points from you both, I just have an attraction to the convenience of solar powered watches and wondered why the technology hasn't been adopted by Breitling........and of course other high end brands.

Remember that a solar watch still has a battery that will need to be replaced at some point in time. I don't mind recharging the watch every once in a while, say 2-3 months
