I see a new model has been announced at BaselWorld - the Hurricane.
I'm in for this one (on the little I know of it and from what I see on the Breitling site) for the following reasons...
1. I love 24 hour dials and have many (Glycines mainly).
2. I have the Super Avenger as it's just a solid chunk of steel and robust
3. Always wanted a Cosmonaute but thought it was a bit too small

The Hurricane seems to fit the bill.
No ideas about the new material (Breitlight).

Now we just need to work out availability.

Thoughts anyone??

I just found this link on TZ while I was looking for more info on what Breitlight actually is (no joy BTW), and while I don't usually link to other forums, I was just genuinely amused by the feeling the Hurricane (and especially it's size) seems to have generated in the wider watch community -

http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.php?3 ... ven-bigger!

Personally I feel they've been maybe a little cruel, especially about the material as I think it could have some serious potential (provided it doesn't turn out to be plastic!), but a few of the comments still amused me.

* EDIT - Found this on Ablogtowatch (and I quote) - "The Breitlight case – a material Breitling was quick to point out is not carbon fiber, but rather a completely new, and Breitling-exclusive case material utilizing a lightweight high-tech polymer that’s been charged with composite fibers for strength and rigidity. It’s over three times lighter than titanium and nearly six times lighter than steel, and while its lightness relative to carbon fiber would have to be largely speculative at this point, it’s probably safe to assume that a forged carbon watch of similar proportions would also be of similar heft".

So it's basically plastic then...... :?

Well you have to wonder why they release two 'revolutionary' material pieces and provide comprehensive amounts of detail about the one with established and proven silicon technology and nothing but the cryptic name for the other one. It's tough not to wonder what they're so scared of people knowing......

Sprint 2016 was early "Breitlight" - in 1972

 Yes the good old Sprint was what sprung to mind when I saw the words "polymer".

To be fair, I'm going to reserve judgement on Breitlight until I get a chance to check it out in person. If it really is as scratch resistant and robust as they claim then I still say it could be a good material for watches. Just not in the crazy 50mm size.

If they make something a little more restrained out of it then I may give it a chance as I'm all for new materials.

Interesting to see how little press the genuine carbon-cased Bentley has received. Again, not my type of watch AT ALL, but good to see them using carbon as well as ceramic now.

I guess the question on everyone's lips is when is it available?
I need to try it on to see.
I might be a bit weird here but I'm actually not a big fan of super light watches.
My Emergencies + UTC modules in titanium is about as light as I'd go and even then I feel it's lacking in heft.
When I don my Super Avenger I know I'm wearing a watch.
Composite polymer and carbon sounds like it will be Casio like...

As for size - I've tried on the Emergency II and thought I love the 50mm size but the salesperson couldn't answer any questions about charging. So I'm waiting for those to be answered before I pull the trigger.
If the Hurricane doesn't feel too cheap it may take the place of the Emergency II (or I get both and roll around in 50mm heaven!!).
