Is there any reason not to wear your watch while shooting? Can the vibration damage any of the internal mechanisms? I've read a few opinions that say its better to remove the watch before spending significant time at the gun range.

In theory you should remove, same as golf. In practice you will likely be OK if you absolutely must know the time while shooting :)

I think it's more important to look good with your Breitling at the range than worry about breaking it!

Personally I think it'd be crazy to risk a non-warranty repair and a 12-week wait when you could just pop a G-Shock on...

I have done crazy stuff with my Chronomat, and I will continue doing it because I believe in using the watch to do what it's being designed for.

I guess that all depends on what you are going to be shooting. :guns:

I've taken my blackbird to the range twice without issue

I take my Breitling's off when I shoot. I do not see the need to expose them to the recoil for no good reason.
Just my feelings on the subject but with some loads, .38+p from an Airweight, the recoil is severe and would be the same as dropping the watch on the floor in my opinion. I have worn my Steelfish through some very hard usage but the complications on some of my other watches, I just do not see the reason to put them through it.
Just my .02, Frank.

Have no reason to shoot where I live. Very safe here.
Hence I would not know how to respond.

I agree with you Wessa. Never shot a gun, rifle or anything else in my life. Tell a lie. I shot an air rifle when I was 12 and a few home made cross bows. Does they count? :) I don't think an air rifle s a match for a Breitling, but a G Shock might be.

Lots of Farmers here keep one or two rifles around their farms, and that's understandable. Even with the recent spate of gun incidents here in the City of Melbourne, I still don't get the urge to go out and buy a gun or learn how to shoot it. Still very safe in the World's most liveable City.

I usually wear either the Evo or Chronospace while shooting because I have a choice, but have shot multiple thousands of rounds with mechanicals on with no problem, including an SO44. I'm with Navi7753 though, wear it, enjoy it, it's silly to remove a watch for golf/shooting/whatever.

Very safe here as well.
I shoot because it's a fun sport and valuable skill to have in case of emergency...like having a fire extinguisher, spare tire or seat belt....nice to have if the need arises.

Back to OP: on firearms forums, this is a much debated topic. Small calibers and larger pistols of medium power factor are likely OK with a high quality mechanical watch. As for .44 & .357 magnums and similar, my mechanical watch goes in the range bag or pocket.

Many people shoot for sport, but it's nice to have the protection of you need it. It's a bit naive to think nothing would ever happen, especially in the time and age we live in now. The world is a crazy place!
