actually the difference in diameter isn't huge between the two, wear both on my similarly sized wrist (bit below 170mm), the 7650 is quite a bit higher, so does not fit under tight cuffs as nicely.

asked a friend to contact the seller of that c24 "7650" as it's also listed on chronotrader & seller fails to mention the incorrect caseback.

there are examples of re-used 1765 cases as "TopTime Co-Pilot", some w/ V178, most w/ R7736 and additional caseback markings; he replied with an Antiqourum auction from 1999 w/ a similar issue ... http://www.lacotedesmontres.com/Enchere-No_20303.htm

I have not seen other such pieces, Rene might have and will chime in, I assume.

Calling it a 7650 and not mentioning the incorrect/questionable caseback would make me hesitate to work w/ that seller; collectability of this piece will always be problematic.

Thanks for that, Fred. It helps very much. I think I want the slimmer 765, but I am beginning to think about the 7650...

I contacted ExoticWatches about the bezel. Philippe will have his technician install the bezel correctly when he returns from holidays in early August. If the bezel is correct for the watch, then I think the issue is it simply was not fully seated on the case. We will see.

I thought Heuers were tricky to navigate, but these 765/7650s are even more difficult! :P

all "desirable" vintage watches have become tricky to navigate, be glad you aren't in double underlines, rail dials & other RoRarities ;)

well, there IS a perfect 765CP on the market. seller is a rather decent guy too, just tough to negotiate with.

jokes aside, that is the most reliable source you can think of, yes, he's a friend too, so I'm not totally objective.

Funny you should note it. I discovered that website today and already contacted the seller. He seems like a decent fellow thus far...

I have left a comment on the onthedash forum as well where its offered. Seller claims he bought it like this , which I don't doubt
problem is that although I have seen 1 or 2 others (this being the 3rd) I have a hard time reconciling where it would fit in and hiding the serial number doesnt help either in investigating

As Fred noted , collectability will always be problematic unless someone can come up with more of these and the ref 1765 attached to it but one of the difficult parts is getting provenance. The 1765 TopTime is IMO no longer being questioned as we have seen several (dozen or so?) examples with either the -36 for the 7736 or the 1765 w/ V178 movements. An AVI/CP version seems questionable as at the same time Breitling already had the 7650

and a last comment ,

look at the overall condition of the Bezel (NOS/New) and compare that with the case (scratched and rebrushed) .. doesnt seem to 'come together' if you know what I mean ?

anyway , proceed with caution, DYODD , etc etc
